Hi,
We currently have 4 Windows Server 2008 R2 terminal servers which all of our users use (IT users)
These servers have IT consoles / Office 2010 / Lync 2013 installed , plus some basic supporting applications (Firefox/Winzip/Adobe Reader/Flash Players etc)
These servers are heavily used by our support teams. We do not have any brokering etc . just plain RDP Teminal servers . I don't know if i am using the correct terminology.
What we are aiming to do is now to build Terminal servers on 2012 R2 and retire the existing ones as they have been ruuning for well over 4 years now.
I am however not sure as 2102 R2 is confusing since there are so many roles for RDS. We just want to deploy Terminal server that users once in office and mstsc /RDP into and run application within the desktop session.
Q:how do i just install terminal server role.
Q:I need to keep all the 4 new servers with similar base config. I readi can manage config on a group of servers from a sigle server. Does that apply.
i.e MS office 2010 / Lync 2013 / Firefox 38 / Winzip
Q:Admins may install the IT consoles themselves , but that is the only difference among the 4 servers , rest config and apps remain the same.
Q:Do we need a new License server or the 2008 one will work just as well.
Q:Any modification/optimizations that one may suggest to improve user experience on 2012 Shared terminal server
Q:How should i manage application updates in the future , we use SCCM on desktops .
But i have seen we lack behind on updates on Terminal servers. Is there any better way to manage application updates on the Terminal servers.
