Hi,
We are trying to migrate our company to windows RDS 2012 from windows RDS 2008 R2 and we are wondering about remoteapp changes. In windows 2012, they changed the managment of remoteapp to one single location (RDS admin server) and it is great but, we are having a few concerns with this change.
Let me describe our current scenario: all servers have win 2012 installed and we are using RDS as aremote desktop session mode.
1 RDSAdmin (console managment)
1 RDSCB1 (Connection Broker) - This server has the following roles: Connection Broker, Web Access, Gateway and Licensing.
2 RDSH (RDS Host)
2 User Disk profile Servers - These servers are hosting the vhdx files for our sessions. The main server is replicating to the other user disk profile server using DFSR technologies.
1 staffapp - Server with special apps (We want to use this server via remoteapp)
We are trying to set up remoteapp for our specific server staffapp. We have one aplication that is only installed on this server and we want to publish it via remote app. This server was added as part of the collection and this is what i found:
- To be able to publish an application via remoteapp, I need to add staffapp server as a host server.
The problem doing this, when a new user log in, they can hit our staffapp server and we dont want that. We want them to hit our RDS host and use this one only as a remoteapp (resources concerns). I changed the load balancing for our servers in the collection to the lowest and it didnt work; users still hit this server.
In win 2008 R2, we were able to publish application from specific server and they dont need to be part of the farm, my question is: can we do this in windows 2012? Can we publich an application from specific host(staffapp) and that server dont be part of the farm (Host servers in collection)?
I read this document: "Understand and troubleshoot Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 8 Beta" and they dont mention anything about that.
Please let me know if anyone out there is having this problem and if you figure it out a solution to this. This is a big tool that we use to share applications.
Thanks!
