Cannot Reconnect to RDS Session on Server 2012 - Remote Desktop Services are currently busy

I am experiencing an issue with Server 2012 RDS. This is a VM running on a 2008 R2 Hyper V Cluster.

The issue seems to only affect one user, but he is the MD.

While trying to re/connect to a remote app, the screen will instead display -

Remote Desktop Services are currently busy

Although sometimes you simply just get a welcome screen that sits there doing nothing instead. It is not an easily reproduced issue, so I don't know how or why it seems to happen, just that rdpshell.exe sometimes spikes in usage and the session can/will not sign off (by either Administrator or the end user)

He will then be unable to log in until I reboot the server, which will not actually restart unless I do a reset.

I would very much like a fix for this, as getting everyone else to disconnect so I can reboot is not really a fix, and I'm sure the MD is not happy about it either.

in which step RD licensing server is contacted

Hello

i need to know in a windows server 2012R2 VDI deployment, the exact step that the RD licensing server is contacted and verified ?

for example imaging a user want to connect to a virtual desktop located on RDVH1.

user ---> RDweb ---> RDCB ---> (RDSH1+RDVH1) (on one server)

whether RDweb or RDCB servers has any thing to do with RD licensing server ?

is it correct to say that only RDSH will contact RD licensing server ?

RDS Copy and paste not working between workstation and RDS host

We have an Windows 2012 R2 RDS farm that will not let users copy and paste from their workstation to the RDS hosts. I have group policy set to allow copy and paste, I have the RDS farm policy set to allow as well. I configured the registry to allow copy and paste is set to allow. I can copy text, but not files from a workstation to a RDS host. I can copy and paste files from one RDS host to another. Our users connect via the RDS gateway page. I tried to launch the RDS file and that did not work either. Thanks for any help.

Adding user profile disks to existing collection

If I modify the properties of an existing collection to specify the location for user profile disks, what happens to the profiles that have already been created on my session host? Will some/all of the data get migrated, or will users start over with new profiles, or will the user profile disks only be created for new users who don't yet have profiles, or none of the above?

Access other users redirected printers from a 2012R2 RDS server

Hi,

We recently upgraded a client's server from Win2003 to 2012R2. The server is now hosted externally, and is not a domain controller (workgroup only).

With the old 2003 server, the Mac and iPad clients using the official remote desktop client were able to print to each other redirected printers.

Now with the new server, they can only access their own local printers. I saw on the web that adding the users to the "print operator" group should work but that didn't. Even the machine administrator can't see other users printers.

Any idea ?

Many thanks in advance.

RDS on 2012 (RD Web link to show Host server to RD into)

I am switching our currently 2008 RDS server over to a new 2012 server. I have it all setup but am looking to replicate the setting on 2008 called "Show a remote desktop connection to this RD Session host server in RD Web Access" under "RD Session Host Server".

Right now I just wanted a way for our users to login to the RD Web Access page and see a link to RD into the current host like we did with 2008. It should not be that difficult but for some reason I cannot figure it out or even search for what I am asking for...lol

Thanks,

Scott

Windows Search Index and User Profile Disks

$

Hi All,

I have two RDS servers (A 2012 and a 2012R2) working with User profile disks and I'm getting what I think is an issue.

When a user logs on for first time and configures its outlook profile all is indexed, OK.

But when the user logs off there's an event saying "Windows Search Service indexed data for user 'domain\user' successfully removed in response to user profile deletion.", so I assume that when user logs off, the UPD is unmounted and then the RDS server eliminates their cached index due to a profile deletion.

Is there any option to not to having to rebuild the index every time the user logs into the server? maybe by storing the index data into their respective UPD? This is so annoying, because the index process needs to index an average of 6GB profile every time the users logs in, and the server performance gets impacted.

Any response will be appreciated.

Thank you

How to Disable Audio Redirection for Terminal Services

$

I have a Windows XP Embedded product which requires audio input/output. When I use remote desktop to log into these systems, the audio driver gets replaced with the Microsoft RDP Audio Driver. This disables my product from working since it now has no audio driver. Below is a list of things I have tried to disable remote redirection of audio:

Remote Desktop Client:

Changed the "Remote computer sound" setting on Remote Desktop client to "Leave at remote computer".  This does work, however, I need to disable this on the server so this doesn't get accidentally changed.

Group Policy:

Changed the group policy setting, "Allow audio redirection" to "Disabled". I ran MMC.exe (Microsoft management Console), "Add/Remove Snap-in", Add..., "Group Policy Object Editor". I went to "Computer Configuration","Administrative Templates", "Windows Components", "Terminal Services", "Client/Server data redirection", "Allow audio redirection" and set that to Disabled. This also did not work. It did disable the audio from being heard on the remote PC, but the Microsoft RDP Audio Driver still replaced my original audio driver when "Bring to this computer" was selected in the remote desktop settings.

Registry:

HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Drivers32/Terminal Server/RDP

I tried renaming the "wave" key and renaming the "rdpsnd.dll" file. After logging in with "Bring to this computer" selected, all audio drivers were missing including the Microsoft RDP Audio Driver.

Other notes:

You don't even have to authenticate into the machine to have the Microsoft RDP Audio Driver remove the audio drivers. This seems very dangerous considering anyone with Remote Desktop can maliciously try to log into a box, and even if authentication fails, all input/output audio functionality gets removed.

Thank You,

Chris Miller

Increasing 2012 R2 RDP session limit

Hello,

I'm looking for the simplest method to point 6 2012 R2 servers to a licensing host without setting up a full TS environment.  This is to allow more RDP sessions on these servers for developers.  I've looked into setting up the licensing server and adding the settings via GPO but didn't know if there was any more to it for 2012 r2.

How to determine license information on installed CALs

$

Hi all,

I have a client who currently has 6 RDS device CAL's for Server 2008 R2 Foundation. They would like to switch to user CALs, but they have no information with regards to their current licenses. They don't know if they include software assurance. They have no records of purchasing the current licenses. I've called Microsoft hoping that they would be able to provide the information but unfortunately they were no help.

How can I tell whether the currently installed device CALs include software assurance?

I have a terminal farm all 2012R2 boxes. All users are set to logoff after 5 minutes of activity via gpo (for both rd and ts apps)

A random set of users will  get a black screen the next time they connect. The only way to fix it is to find the winlogon.exe process that is tied to the user and end task then have the user login again. (you cannot disconnect these users using the logoff command or disconnect command from the collections manager gui)

I've applied https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2959626 to all terminal and broker servers. It didn't help.

RDP connection takes about 20 seconds after RD session Host role installed in server 2012R2

Hello

by default, when we want to establish RDP to a windows server 2012R2 system, session takes approximately 20 seconds to be established and be logged in.

i always reduce this time and make it establish very fast by configuring this policy to"low level"

Group policy / administrative templates / windows components / remote desktop services / remote desktop session host / security ---> set client connection encryption level ----> "low level"

but after i install RDSH (which also installs RDCB + RD web) on this server, again RDP sessions take long showing "securing remote connection" and takes approximately 20 minutes to establish.

i guest it is because of certificates (edit deployment properties. certificates)

how can we solve it?

thanks in advanced

RD connection broker settings in server 2012 R2

$

Hello

in server 2008 R2, there was a tsconfig.msc console via which we created an RD connection broker farm

and also via this console we made another server member of an RDCB farm.

but in server 2012R2, i didn't find any console that let me create a farm or make a server member of RDCB farm.

has this concept changed in server 2012 R2 ?

i've find RDCB setting only in group policy :

Gpedit.msc/...../ remote desktop services/RD Connection broker / which contains the following ACEs

  • Join RD connection broker
  • configure RD connection broker farm name
  • etc

when we configure these policies in server 2012 R2 ?

RD connection broker and its related settings have been confusing in server 2012R2 in comparision with what was in server 2008 R2  :-(

problem with participating 2nd RDSH server in my deployment in RDS 2012R2

Hello

in my test 2012R2 lab, i have deployed these servers:

VM1(2012R2)= DC + DNS (2012R2)

VM2 (2012R2) = RD session Host 1 (RDWeb + RDCB + RDSH installed)

vm3 (2012R2)

i haven't deployed any RD Licensing server in this test Lab.

all VMs are joined to domain

from server manager console in VM2, i added a 3rd server (VM3) in the server pool and added it as 2nd RDSH server, so system automatically installed solely the RDSH role service on it.

now 2 problem:

problem1:

in RDS 2008, RD connection broker duty was redirecting disconnected RDP clients to the previous RDSH server when we have multiple RDSH servers.

from a windows 8.1 client, i establish a full desktop RDP to RDSH1 (10.1.1.2) and open a notepad and then i close the windows (disconnect the session) and again run mstsc and this type i connect to RDSH2 (10.1.1.3), but RD connection broker doesn't operate its duty and i am not redirected back to RDSH1 which is was connected to.

i have done this in RDS 2008 R2 and there it worked perfectly

problem 2: although i have deployed 2 RD session host server, but

  • in previously created session collection, in load balancing node, i don't see my 2nd RDSH server.
  • when in RDSH1 , i create a new session collection, system doesn't show me RDSH1 and only shows RDSH 2

have a missed any step in the entire configuration?

should i manually add RDSH 2 in any group on RDSH 1 machine ? or any other configurations?

thanks in advanced

Windows Server 2012 VDI: view and manage personal desktop assignments

$

I've deployed Windows Server 2012 VDI in my test lab. I can create a collection of personal desktops and give users access to it. However, I cannot find a way to see how many desktops in the pool were already assigned. I also cannot find a way to find which users were already assigned a personal desktop, and I cannot remove assignments that already exist.

In Windows Server 2008 R2 it was possible to look at msTSPrimaryDesktop attribute of AD user account to find whether the user has a personal desktop assigned, as well as clear it to remove the assignment. However, in Windows Server 2012 this attribute is not populated. In addition, I cannot find 'Personal Virtual Desktop' tab in AD account properties which is mentioned in several TechNet articles.

How should I manage personal desktop assignments in Windows Server 2012?
