Internet Links in RemoteApp Launching Local Browser

Windows Server 2008 RC1

RemoteApp

TS Web Access

This may require bending the laws of today's Computer Science, but is there a way to launch the user's local IE browser when an Internet link (commonly sent vby email) is launched through a RemoteApp session of Outlook? I'm evaluating RemoteApp for an application hosting company who would rather not encourage people to surf the Internet through their Data Center.

The word is that 2X has found out how to do this, but they'd rather keep everything under Microsoft's umbrella.

Thanks for the advice MVPs!

Remove right click option in TS 2012 R2 start button

Is there any build in function from Microsoft to remove the right click option on the start button for my Terminal users, as they don't have to see all the option there?

And I think I have closed all down in GPO, but they are still able to open Event viewer and Network connection and worst, my computer management, where I can see they have the option for example, to remove under device manager?

Can it be possible that Microsoft hasn't think of this, as a problem for their own Terminal solution?

Stuck on signing out screen when connecting into a Server2012R2 machine.

Hi all,

I RDP into this server, it gives me to the company security warning and has me click OK, from there it goes to the signing out screen with the rotating dots and just sits there indefinitely.

If I log into the server using the console on our VM host, after entering my credentials it immediately goes to the singing in dot circle.

I suspect this has something to do with way I may have disconnected from the server with a previous RDP session, the only fix I've found is to have someone else log in and disconnect/log me off.

Any ideas?

RDS 2012: Can you publish apps installed on a network from the rds server.

Hello,

I have allot of apps that installed on a network share. So there is a front end installed on the server but the executable sits on network. It does not appear as an installed app in the window of publishing apps. The reason for this is so any settings modified as part of this software must be installed as a network server so that all users get the settings.

Thanks in advance

Cert expiring, avoid redeploying RemoteApp (Server 2008 R2)?

I have two RD servers setup and have the apps deployed via GPO to a number of desktop PC's and laptops, the RDP files were digitally signed and the certificate is due to expire within the next couple of months.  The certificates for the servers will be reissued but I'd like to avoid having to redeploy the apps if possible, can this be done?  There is a GPO for RDP clients that allows you to define a SHA1 thumbprint for trusted publishers, would this work?

Thanks in advance.

I just installed my Server 2016 in Workgroup mode. However, I was not able to find any roles to install the RDS.

My 2 ADM remote desktop access work fine but I need 10 TS clients.

Can you tell me the procedure to install the terminal services if some one does not want to have an Active directory (domain)

Thank you

Christopher

Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server Event ID 20499

I keep getting Event ID 20499 "Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server \\SERVERNAME for user USERNAME" in our event logs for multiple servers that are running 2012 R2

I noticed that when this happens the user often is missing items that get applied via group policies such as desktop wallpapers and mapped drives.

I am also using the Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac that was release yesterday on another Mac computer and for certain users it won't launch the redirected folder that I specified when I get this Event ID 20499

How can I make the client by the connection quality of lan10mkps forcely under Windows Server 2012 R2?

Hello,

I made a virtualized host here and enabled remotefx. The client is Win7, rdp8.1 protocol. When I use the remote desktop, I need to manually select LAN 10 Kmps connection quality to connect to the remote desktop. When using automatic detection of connection quality, I stop to estimate the connection quality and exit. . Similarly, when I use rdweb pages, I stop to estimate connection quality and then exit.

May I ask what I can do to solve this problem (similar to remote connection using LAN connection quality)

I would like to express my thanks for any advice and help you can give.

Missing UPD template disk from RDS deployment

I think I am missing the template UPD VHD from our 2012r2 RDS deployment

Existing users are ok but all new users are getting temp profiles. I looked in the share where the UPD disks are defined and it looks like someone has accidentally deleted the template disk.  Is there any way I can recreate this without disrupting the RDS farm?

I don't have backups of the location where the profile UPD's are stored

thanks

Remote desktop Can't connect to the remote desktop for one of these reasons

I have a Remote desktop Services solution where I have published some remoteapps, mostly rdp-links to different servers. Some of these work and some doesnt. I get this error message:

The thing is that it connects to the rd session host and  I can see eventIDS 800,801 and 818 and they are successful.  but when redirecting to the server the Connection drops

I have played With the settings for the rd Gateway to no avail. My solution is Web Access, Connection broker and RD Gateway  installed on two servers  load balanced through netscaler. Session hosts for different Collections are on dedicated servers behind them.

I can Connect directly to the servers from my Client and also through RDS with the option for connecting to a Remote pc but not via remoteapps

How does one specify licensing mode in RDS on Server 2016

In RD Licensing Diagnoser on Server 2016, I get a message that the licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server is not configured. How does one set this. I cannot find the "RD Session Host Configuration Tool" like I we have used in the past with Windows Server 2008 R2 to accomplish this task.

Thanks

Windows Servr 2016 RDSH - Firewall rules created at every login.

$

Hi,

I have a setup with the following servers running Windows Server 2016

1x RDGW, RDCB, RDWA, RDLicensing.

5x RDSH

Im using UPD on the collection.

I have noticed very long login times, after policys etc are shown on screen it sits at a black screen for between 20sec and sometimes up to 5min.

I have also noticed that the svchost.exe that controls the Windows Firewall is using 25% to 50% when a user logs in and using around 1200Mb memory.

After I found this I checked the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security and found thousands of Cortana, Work or school account, Your account, Contact Support rules.

I found a script in this thread that could delete the rules https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/9aad7675-d1ba-4900-9d85-0cd117f5514f/new-firewall-rules-created-for-each-user?forum=win10itprosetup

This made the CPU usage and memory usage go down to normal levels, but after every login a user does it builds up the list of rules again. With many users logging in to the system the rules build up very fast and the login times gets high and every server gets slow.

Example on our RDSH01 server that have been running in production since 2017-04-13 the script found and deleted 66153 rules that it found with "$Rules = Get-NetFirewallRule -All | Where-Object {$profiles.sid -notcontains $_.owner -and $_.owner }"

The script also tryed to get rules with this command "$rules2 = Get-NetFirewallRule -All -PolicyStore ConfigurableServiceStore | Where-Object { $profiles.sid -notcontains $_.owner -and $_.owner }" but fails with an "not enough space error"

The script removes the rules from here with the content of $rules "HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\FirewallRules"

and $rules2 was meant to clean up at "HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\RestrictedServices\Configurable\System"

but doesnt do anything because of the error on the Get-command. If I try to access it with regedit it stops to respond, guessing there are too many items in that container for it to handle.

Anyone know a solution for this problem?

Regards Fredrik

RDS 2012 "Disconnect all connections" from command line

$

Hello!

We are using RDS 2012 and Windows 8 clients. Sometimes there is a need to disconnect all RemoteApp connections. The easiest way is to find "Connected to RemoteApp and Desktop Connection" icon in a tray and to choose "Disconnect all connections" there, but frequently it's hard to explain to user by phone how to do it.

Better approach here is to put "Disconnect" shortcut on user's desktop. Unfortunately, I haven't found any way to disconnect all connections from cmd (or alternatives such as vbs or Powershell).

Is there a way to create such shortcut/script? Thanks in advance.

Upgrade 2012 RDS CALs to 2016 RDS CALs?

$

So we were running a virtual machine on the cloud, that was our RDSH, Win 2012, with 15 2012 CALs. The worst of the worst happened, and let's just say, we lost it completely (accept for our backups of the data, which is all we needed). However, we did need a new server, and desired (due to cost savings), to purchase an in-house server, instead of resuming our cloud use. Unfortunately, the only pre-built servers (as we needed it ASAP), was a 2016 machine, so we bought it, and got everything working again in half a day, not too bad....

Well, after seeing the annoying "120 days, 90 days, now 75 days, of unlimited licenses" warning, I decided it was time to dig up my old CALs (from only 2 year ago, bought summer of 2016). I installed all the old 2012 CALs just fine... but now I learn that 2012 CALs won't allow users to connect to a 2016 RDSH... okay?? So how do I upgrade these, or is this just some... you're s.o.l., too bad, Microsoft likes licensing fees, and throw those 2012 CALs in the garbage....? And pray we don't have server troubles again, and never upgrade your server version again?

Upgrade Win2008 R2 RDGW Server to Windows2016

$

Hi

I have an installation of Remote Desktop Services Gateway based on Windows 2008 R2 Ent.

I need to upgrade to Windows 2016 and need to assemble the possibilities on how to proceed.

Questions:

* Can I perform an In-Place Upgrade with out haveing to first upgrade to Windows 2012?

* The choice of Enterprise version, is it still needed and how does that affect a possible In-Place upgrade?

(I whish not to use the Enterprise version so I assume that a clean install is preferable!?)

* Licensing server is running on a separate server, does it need to be upgraded as well (i assume it does!)?

* Order of upgrade of TS licensing server (assuming TS Licensing goes first before RDGW Srv?)?

TIA

Henrik

finding client's ip address or computer name when monitoring RDP sessions in RDS 2012R2

$

hello

it is a common need that in our RDSH server 2012 R2, we want to see from which computers are now connected to our session collections

i verified both server manager and powershell Cmdlet such as Get-RDUsersession, but none of them shows from which IP address or computer client's computer name or ip address. both only shows server's IP address.

i remember that tsadmin.msc in server 2008 had such ability.

any workaround ?

thanks in advanced
