Changing password at first login problem from W7 x64 client to W2012 terminal server

$

When logging in with RDP for the first time to our W2012 Terminalserver from any x86 workstation you get the screen to change your password and everything works fine. When doing this from a W7 x64 workstation we get an error-screen  "Remote desktop Connection - You must change your password before logging on the first time. Please update your password or contact your system administrator or technical support."

are there any idees or hot fixes to solve this problem?

Excel Options

Hello,

I was wondering, I have a Terminal Server 2008 with Office 2010 installed, and I need to change some default options for all users.  Can this be done globally on Terminal Server using a template or do these need to be changed user by user?

Thanks,

George

Serious problem with TSCAL per user Licensing (Event 4105 on Licenseserver)

$

Hello,

i've got a problem with Terminalservice-Licensing: We migrated our AD from W2003 to W2008. At the same time, we updated our Terminalservice-Licenseserver to W2008 (Memberserver, no DC). We are using per-user TSCAL licensing. The problem is, that for (nearly) every user that logs on to a W2008 Terminalserver, an event 4105 is generated in the eventlog of the Licenseserver, that  means that the licence server cannot update the ad user properties when he delivers the cals.

We have discovered that the terminalserver-licenceserver group is under the security properties of the user listed but has no rights. For new created users the rights "terminalserver-licenceserver read/write" are correctly set and for those users no event 4105 is generated. The problem is, that License-reporting (usage) is only working for those newly created accounts and not for old ones. Why doesn't the terminalserver-licenceserver group have the rights to modify the Terminalserver-AD attributes for older accounts (these accounts were created when the domain-level was W2003)??? Is there a workaround or hotfix from Microsoft to correct the securitysettings ??

Many thanks

Ralf

RemoteApp and focus on dialog boxes

We are publishing our applications to the user using RemoteApp.
It happens rather often that when you do something in an app that causes the app to display a dialogbox or maybe just another window
the new window will come up behind the app and impossible to get to. It seems it wont get focus properly and you cannot minimize the app in order to see the window that is requiring your action

I have found a couple of notes about it but nothing with any sugestion to a solution or so.

Anyone seen this before and knows anything more about it

Upgrade Windows 2003 TS CAL to Windows 2012 RDS CAL?

$

Hi there,

I like to understand if a) the upgrade can be done through MS Licensing Clearing house and b) if 'it is cheaper' or if there are any other benefits to do so or we should just consider getting Windows 2012 RDS CAL licenses altogether?

The scenario is that the client is moving towards a Windows 2012 RDS with VDI solution and they have like some 500-2000 Windows 2003 TS CALs between different sites. I believe they are SA customers for licensing purposes.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server Event ID 20499

I keep getting Event ID 20499 "Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server \\SERVERNAME for user USERNAME" in our event logs for multiple servers that are running 2012 R2

I noticed that when this happens the user often is missing items that get applied via group policies such as desktop wallpapers and mapped drives.

I am also using the Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac that was release yesterday on another Mac computer and for certain users it won't launch the redirected folder that I specified when I get this Event ID 20499

Remote Desktop can’t find the Computer through RDWeb and Gateway

Remote Desktop can't find the computer "servername.domain.com".  This might mean that "server.domain.com" does not belong to the specified network.  Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to.

That's the error dialog box I get AFTER logging into the RD Web site and clicking on a collection of published computers.

I'm running Windows 2012 Std with VDI.  All that is setup.  I can connect internally no problem (to my collections and such).

I have verified there is an A Record on my DNS server to the Windows 2012 server.  On my IIS (on my Win 2012 server), I have gone to ServerName | Sites | Default Web Site | RDWeb | Pages - then to Application Settings, then to DefaultTSGateway and input either my public IP or FQDN and neither worked.

Here's a twist though: When I open my Server Manager and go to Remote Desktop Services, my RD Gateway is green with a + mark.  When I double click it, it will only open to add RD Gateway Servers.  So I think maybe I have no RD Gateway Server setup?  I can double click my found server and it'll move it to the selected column and I can click next and next through the small wizard.  But if I do that, even RD won't work through the web.

So, I'm totally lost.  I can't find anything else to troubleshoot to fix this.  As I mentioned, everything works great internally. But doesn't work externally (RDWeb or just a remote desktop).  I've read about 20 forums here and they mostly all say the same thing that helped many other people w/the same problem, but none helped me.  Any suggestions on how I can resolve this problem?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

How to set default logon domain RD Gateway and/or RD Web

$

I'm using Win2k8 R2 servers with WinXP clients.  When I logon to the RD Web page, and again to RD Gateway, I -have- to enter domain\username to authenticate.  Anyone know how I can set the default logon domain?  My users don't even know how to spell their username most of the time, let alone what domain they're in, and I only have one domain.

Thanks

RDS RD Gateway EXTERNAL FQDN (Help)

$

First I would like to thank Danis cooper who answered my few questions on RDS previously.

I have RDS session host setup and it's working fine internally (Everything is setup including all the policies rap and cap)

I currently don't have an external FQDN for my RD gateway

I have an NAT public IP which I can use to get access to /rdweb and also able to login with the correct credentials but can't remote desktop via the gateways due to certificate mismatch obviously because my URL is something like this 12.52.65.32/rdweb certificate FQDN is rdsh-f1.mydomain.co.uk (cert mismatch)

Now far from my knowledge and what I was told is that your RDgateway certificate + FQDN that is registered on  the internet has to match with your Internal Domain name?

So here's the problem I have a website that is online is registered as y.com and my internal server domain that is not registered online is x.co.uk! I'm thinking how on a earth am I going to go around this? maybe you can help me on this?

so now I decided to register my primary domain  x.co.uk on the net but it has already been taken by someone else. Now I'm left with no option because if I tell my web hosting providers to add a DNS entry to remote.x.co.uk for my rd gateway, they already said that it is not possible because this domain name already registered.

Now I got another reply from my web hosting providers that they will able create a sub-domain for something like remote.y.com/rdweb for my rd gateway. now I am think well my internall domain is x.co.uk and the external is y.com how would that work out?

any solution to this will be highly appreciated

Please note that I will not rename my internal domain to suit the need in order to carry out this operation.

2012 Remote Desktop KVP Sessions

Hi

With our new 2012 RD Server, I have 10 CALS installed (per user).  Say if the 12 users log in, I notice in the event log two errors with the same event ID.  The sessions seems to work fine for everyone connected.

1152 TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager
Failed to create KVP Sessions String.  Error Code 0x8007007A

Do I need more CALS?

Thanks

Remote Desktop RD Gateway and RWA Error

$

Hi all

Apologise if this question has been answered before as I myself could not get an valid answer in terms of problems I am facing.

I have One server setup with all the RD roles.

All the certificates are issued from local CA and it's trusted in the internal network for clients.

RDGateway is setup with the same certificates as other ones since all of the roles are in one server.

so INTERNAL FQDN is RDSH-Farm1.domain.co.uk

RDGATEWAY rap and cap policies are setup fine.

Everything works internally but not externally.

All the necessary ports are opened on my firewall, although 443 and port 80 is required but for testing purposes I left most of the RDS ports open.

So here is the main problem. I have given a public IP address from my ISP for NAT purposes and I'm using it for my RDWA, Obviously I can't use my domain.co.uk/rdweb to browse to my iis since it's not on the internet instead i use public ip 2.3.4.5/rdweb and it works I am able login to the website without a problem but soon I try to remote desktop to RDSH I get an error saying "RD gateway is not reachable"

does that mean I can't use IP/rdweb to get access to my server instead I need a FQDN that is resolvable on the internet?

but why is that? what's stopping rd gateway to get access to my work resources internally?

and obviously I understand I need an SSL cert so the site looks trusted and genuine or is there more to it?

Is there way to link my NAT IP to my FQDN (such as my internal iis webserver) so that It's resolvable on the net and I can get access to my RDgateway?

I know i bombered with questions but if anyone can tell me what exactly I need from a to z to make this thing work???????

Thanks In advance

Office 2013 not saving settings

I have 2012 rdsh and rdwa installed. My collection has office 2013 installed.  It seems that every time a users starts an office application it thinks it is the first time I am running it ( Welcome to your new office wizard). I run through the wizard and make the changes I need to make in the trust center. But when I log out and log back in I have to repeat the process.

I do have a remote desktop services profile set up. I am not sure if that may not be configured properly and that is causing the issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Remote Desktop will not accept SSL Cert from GeoTrust

I have read through a ton of posts trying to find the answer to my question. We have a 2008 R2 Remote Desktop server and I am trying to get the GeoTrust certificate working on it. I have imported the certificate into the Certificates MMC under the Local Computer\Personal\Certificates folder. The certificate is valid and shows no issues when viewed in the Certificates MMC. The Enhanced Key Usage shows both Server Authentication and Client Authentication.

When I try to add the certificate through the RD Session Host Configuration MMC it says "There are no certificates installed on this Remote Desktop Session Host server"

When I try to run the rdconfig.js cscript as found in other posts it returns the error "rdconfig.js(38, 1) SWbemObjectEx: Invalid parameter"

When I try and run "wmic /namespace:\\root\CIMV2\TerminalServices PATH Win32_TSGeneralSetting Set SSLCertificateSHA1Hash="thumbprint"  it returns the error "Updating property(s) of '\\SERVER\root\CIMV2\TerminalServices:Win32_TSGeneralSetting.TerminalName="RDP-Tcp"' ERROR: Description = Invalid parameter"

I have no idea what else to try. I have even ran the command "certutil -repairstore my "thumbprint" as someone else recommended and it completes successfully with no error saying "Encryption test passed"

Why can't I get this certificate added to the RDP protocol binding?

Thanks

How many servers required to deploy RD Gateway to physical desktop PCs

$

We want to setup RD Gateway for users to reach their desktop PCs from the Internet.  There are connecting to physical computers, not VMs or VDI.

While the RD Gateway server itself could be a Hyper-V VM, we are not hosting VMs or VDI for the users to log into.  Everyone will be using the RD Gateway to log into their physical desktop PC.

How many Windows servers are required just to get it running for an initial small number of users to pilot?

We can add more servers if there is such a heavy traffic load in the future than the server cannot handle it, but for now I would like to know what is the minimum amount of separate Windows servers required just to make it function to securely pass RDP connections through from the Internet to an internal desktop PC.

Do we need just one server to be a RD Gateway or do we need the Gateway plus a second server to be Connection Broker and third Windows server to be a licensing server?

Do we need a separate Connection Broker server at all to allow users to connect to physical computers?

RemoteApp 2012 and File Type Associations

$

Hi, All :),

the scenario is like this -  2 x Server 2012: one as the RD Connection Broker and RD Web Access and one as the RD Session Host (clients are Windows 7). ALMOST everything works: there is one collection, several applications, all successfully thrown into the RemoteApp and Desktop Collections by GPO (Powershell script - http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/ScriptCenter/313a95b3-a698-4bb0-9ed6-d89a47eacc72/).

But one thing doesn't work - file type associations. Well, I want the client without, for example, Office installed to open the RemoteApp application (Excel) by clicking on the XLSX file. When looking at the application properties -> File Type Associations -> Current Associations column, I see the name of the collection, which includes Excel ... but it does not work. After updating the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections on the client, the RDP file with Excel noticed a new line:
remoteapplicationfileextensions: s:. csv,. xls,. xlsx,. xltx

How do I make it work? I know that in RemoteApp on Server 2008R2 you could export the MSI file that took care of File Type Associations, but what to do in case of Server 2012?

Certificate Error When Using Remote App

$

I'm doing an emergency deployment of a program using RemoteApp and I'm getting a certificate error on the two WinXP SP3 computers at the remote site.  I can login to the farm through Remote Desktop fine, but as soon as I launch RemoteApp I get a yellow certificate error.

The same icon works on a local test system fine and I have it working at another remote site.  The error in more detail states:

Your remote desktop connection failed because the remote computer cannot be authenticated

The remote computer could not be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate.  It may be unsafe to proceed.

Name mismatch

Requested remote computer:
<farm.domain.local>

Name in the certificate from the remote computer
<servername.domain.local>

Certificate errors

The following errors were encountered while validating the remote computer's certificate:

The server name on the certificate is incorrect.

And it would not allow me to proceed.  The problem is that I'm not using certificates at all and no certificate warning comes up at my other locations or on the test station.

Right now, I'm installing a slew of updates.  Could this be the problem?

According to MS, all RemoteApp requires is Windows XP SP3 and I believe RDC 6.

RD Session Host Redirection in drain mode

Hi, we use a RD FARM load balanced by DNS Round Robin. Also in another server we run Remote Desktop Connection Broker.

All client Windows 7.

When i put down server tsfarm01 (part of tsfarm.domain.com farm) in drain mode, clients which DNS cache contain for fqdn tsfarm - ip address of tsfarm01 server and try connect to it. I receive message (Remote Sessions are currently disabled)

Why RDCB didn't redirected my session on available terminal server (tsfarm02, tsfarm03 ...)?
