Hi

I have purchased w2k8 r2 volume license for WinRmtDsktpSrvcsCAL and userCAL. When I download the license key from VLSC there is only w2k8 product key available for this server. After activate the server with this product key then I enabled the server's remote desktop service role and when i installed the role it says I have 120 days remaining to activate the remote desktop service. Now question is-

Why it says 120 days remaining ?
how i activate the remote desktop service?

where i will find the activation key for the remote desktop service ?

Thanks. <o:p></o:p>

Remote Desktop Services is slow

I have 2 physical Windows 2012 R2 servers configured as Remote Desktop Session Hosts behind a RD Connection Broker. The servers have more than enough resources. I currently only have 11 users per server. And all my users are complaining it is too slow. The only thing coming to mind is slow responce from the User Profile Disks on my file server. It is a windows 2003 (SMB 1) server. Wil it perform better if I upgrade the server to 2012? Or should I migrate my users from UserProfile Disks toold fashionedroamingprofiles, and how do I do that?

RDS 2012 - Hide Server Resources in RemoteApp

$

Hello RDS experts!  I am struggling with what should be a simple solution with RemoteApp.  Here is my challenge:

I am sharing Internet Explorer from an RDS server to users.  I have a number of web applications that users cannot access either because of browser incompatibility or browser security settings, so I want to funnel them through RD Gateway and RDS to a Remote App.

I have the Gateway configured corrected and the internal RDS server as well, but I'm struggling with getting the correct user experience.

The users are going to need to save files and I want them to be able to save the files back on their remote machines without any hassle.  I understand from previous forum posts that mapping their remote drive "as the C: drive" just doesn't really work, but there's got to be something that I can do to hide the server drives.

I have tried the below articles:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/231289

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/75f72254-7ea0-43ce-91d9-ea2e333f7052/saving-files-from-a-remote-app-appv

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2011/05/26/how-to-restrict-users-from-accessing-local-drives-of-an-rd-session-host-server-while-using-remoteapp-programs.aspx

None of these seem to work with 2012 R2...or maybe it's just specific to the "Save As.." menu coming from IE.  Maybe if I had a full blown Windows Explorer (or now "File Explorer") then it would work right.

Can anybody shed any light on this, please be specific to the 2012 R2 implementation?  Or is there an easier way to do it?  I looked at user profile disks, but that seems like a bad option for me because I want the users to have their files once they are offline and disconnected from me...

Please help!!

I can login into the rdweb site, but when I try and launch any app it fails then when I look on the server I receive the following error.

A fatal error occurred when attempting to access the SSL server credential private key. The error code returned from the cryptographic module is 0x8009030D. The internal error state is 10001.

Any ideas?

Where is the Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration tool in Server 2012 ?

Where is the Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration tool in Server 2012 ?

This is an MMC snap-in found on earlier servers, even if RDS is not installed.  In Server 2012, even if the Remote Desktop Session Host role is installed, this tool is still not available.

I'm looking for the Server 2012 tool to adjust security settings like TLS authentication, High encryption level, choice of TLS certificate, NLA, etc.

Thanks!

RDP screen goes black after successful remote login

I have a Windows 2008 Server that I have been connecting to once a month remotely to apply OS updates.  Often, I reboot that server and it uses auto-logon to login and run an application.

Today, I rebooted the server and when I try to connect with RDP, I get the login prompt and enter my credentials, I see a few expected messages fly by on the host OS (the last one I see is the word Welcome), but then the screen goes black.

The apps on the server are running successfully because our applications can connect to them, we just can't logon to the desktop of the Windows Server 2008.

I made no configuration changes (I NEVER do) other than to apply the latest Windows Server updates.

I would prefer not to drive to the computers location, or try to coordinate a time to have the server hosting company assist me with troubleshooting; but is there anything else I can do?  Any ideas about what might cause this?

Weird problem connecting rdsh collection (with rdbroker) when client one same subnet with a default ip gateway on nic

Hi.

As said in the title, I'm facing a strange issue.

When connecting to a rdsh farm through a broker with a client on the same subnet, all is normally functionning, the connection is very fast (1 or 2 seconds).

Precision for the client : windows 7 with the last rdp client update (rdp 8.0)

If the client (always on the same subnet as the server is) NIC is configured with a default gateway (on the same subnet too) the connection process is slowing down. It seems that the client is waiting (without doing anything on the network if I refer to wireshark or network monitor captures) after the security negociations with the broker. It waits around 30 seconds and then began to "talk" with one of the two rdsh in the farm.

It seems like internal ip program of the client acts differently when there is a default route ?????

Any ideas

Regards.

Pierre

MSTSC Application Error

I am having a strange problem with MSTSC, everytime a user tries running MSTSC it comes up with application error and closes on all the machines they are using.

They do have a roaming profile, so I am wondering whether the profile is corrupt but how can it affect running MSTSC?

I have logged onto the machine and tried running MSTSC and it works but I do have admin rights.

The OS is Windows XP SP3 and trying to connect to Server 2000.

Remote Desktop 2012 R2 Certificate Mismatch

$

Hi everyone,

I realise that similar questions have been asked before but I'm still having trouble.  I've configured a 2012 R2 RDS farm as follows:

DC.mydomain.local-DC, RD Licensing, SQL for HA

RDCB.mydomain.local - connection broker

RDGW.mydomain.local - RD Gateway & Web Access

RDSH1.mydomain.local - Session Host (Server Desktop)

Externally, cloud.mydomain.co.uk points to the external IP of the Gateway server.  I have a public certificate (GoDaddy) with cloud.mydomain.co.uk on it.  I've also configured HA for the connection broker using the name cloud.mydomain.co.uk.  Internally cloud.mydomain.co.uk resolves to the IP of the connection broker.

The problem is that when I connect to a resource via the RDWeb page, I get a pop-up advising that the name on the certificate doesn't match rdcb.mydomain.local.  I had assumed that setting up HA would effectively hide this name from clients (i.e. they'd see cloud.mydomain.co.uk at all stages of the connection).  If I ignore the certificate error it works fine but I'm sure there must be a way of getting around this, does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks,

Matt

Hi,

Iam in a pickle at the moment.

My RDS 2012 R2 environment was working successfully previously, arrived from holiday and it is not longer working.

My setup:

**RDS01 ( Session Host and Connection Broker Roles )

**RDS02 ( Web Access, Gateway and Licencing Roles)

The Problem i am facing is, after successfully login to the RDWeb page, lunching the remoteapp i get the following:

1st Get Certificate mismatch ( name in the certificate RDS02.mycompany.local is not trusted )

2nd Hit YES and the following message "Windows cannot start the RemoteApp program. The following RemoteApp program is not in the list of authorized programs: WinWord"

It happens whether i do connect externally.

Internally the SSO does not work ( i did check my certificate and it is installed )

If i run the script Set-RDPublishedName and change it from remote.mycompany.com to RDS01.mycompany.local

1st Certificate name mismatch ( requrested pc RDS01, name in the certficate remote.mycompany.com )

2nd Hit Yes and the app works

It happens whether i do connect internally or externally.

Any help will be very appreciated.

cheers

2012 RDS: Non-Administrators can not access VDI pool

$

I am currently setting up server 2012 VDI using 2 servers. A connection broker, web access, licenseing server and a VM Host server. I have followed the wizards, created my master image, created the collection, and setup group policy to add the group I want to give RDS access to Allow log on through terminal services & Remote Desktop Users group.

When I connect using my admin account everything works, it connects to the connection broker and then forwards to one of the running VMs.

When I connect using a non-admin account I am prompted with: The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login. I also get the following in the event log:

TerminalServices-SessionBroker

RD Connection Broker failed to process the connection request for user ***\****.
Failed to find Resource Plugin OR an end point for the user.
Error: Access is denied.

TerminalService-SessionBroker-Client

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed while getting redirection packet from Connection Broker.
User : ***\****
Error: Element not found.

--

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user ***\****
Error: NULL

I searched the internet high and low and I can not figure this out. I have even put the the non-admin users in the remote desktop users on the server just to see what would happen, same results if trying to connect to the pool. But I am able to connect directly to the server. I am also able to directly connect to a VM in the pool using a non-admin account.

Any help would be appreciated.

Shadow failed, Error code 7044 and 120 with Multiple Monitors and Windows Server 2008 R2

We are in the process of moving from Windows 2003 R2 and Citrix XenApp 5 to Windows 2008 R2, and Citrix XenApp6.5. About half of our users and our entire IT Department have multiple monitors. Most of our users connect to a full desktop in Citrix. We had no problem shadowing our users in the old environment but in the new environment we get an error. I understand the reason for this problem is a change in how Windows 2008 R2 supports Multiple Monitors. I know this is by design according tohttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/2484290 but the work around is not acceptable. The issue we have with the work around is that it is more time consuming and requires the user be able to accept the support request invitation. We frequently need to shadow a user when they are not at their desk, or their Citrix session is locked up.

Does anyone have a better solution or any idea when Microsoft will find a fix for Shadowing?

Installing terminal server role on windows server 2012 to use for Windows server 2008 R2 machines.

Dear

Our current setup is as follows :-

Active Driectory is in Windows Server 2003.
Citrix Xenapp version 5.6 with all Xenapp servers in Windows Server 2003

Now we are upgrading our Citrix farm to 6.5 and all Xen app servers into Windows Server 2008R2.
We did the configuration and testing; everything works fine except the terminal server is not configured which gives the pop always for the expiry date.

We do have license for 2012 terminal server which is not possible to downgrade for some reason and managent need to install new Windows Server 2012 for terminal server and activte the licenses.

My question is :-
1 Whether Windows Server 2008 R2 will get RDS cal license from Windows Server 2012 terminal server (RDS CAL license is of windows server 2012).
2. What is the role and features I need to activate in Server 2012 in order to use for Citrix 6.5 (only applicable fetaure for getting the RDS cal license.)
3. Whether I can add this 2012 server into domain. Is it possible to add 2012 server into Windows Server 2003 AD.

Your early reply is highly appreciated.

server 2012 - installing user cal error

Hello,

we have set up a server 2012 and bought 4 User CALs for multiple acces.

RDS session host & collection deployment has been installed and configured.

however when i want to install the appropriate User CALs in RD Licensing Manager i do the following:

1) click on install license

2) enter the correct license program and agreement number

3) select product version "Windows Server 2012"

4) select license type "RDS per User CAL"

5) select quantity "4"

and then on the next screen i receive the following error message:

"the licensing agreement data provided to Microsoft is not valid. Check all the information you provided, make any necessary corrections and then resubmit your request. if the problem persists, try using a different connection method."

i have checked RD Licensing Diagnoser and see the following errors/warnings:

"Licenses are not available for this Remote Desktop Session Host server, and RD Licensing Diagnoser has identified licensing problems for the RD Session Host server"

"Number of licenses available for clients: 0"

"The Remote Desktop Session Host server is in Per User licensing mode and No Redirector Mode, but license server XXX  does not have any installed licenses with the following attributes:
Product version: Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2
Licensing mode: Per User"

Additional information: we do not have a license server, so the same server has been specified as licensing server in RDS session host configuration.

Any help appreciated!

Best,

Sebastian

Multiple monitors not working in RDS on server 2012

Hello.

I have a Windows 2012 server running RDS. Before RDS was installed a remote desktop session used all available monitors when 'use all my monitors for the remote session' was checked in the RDP client settings.

After I installed RDS the default session collection had a limit of 16 monitors that I was unable to edit. When I connected to the default session collection I could only get the remote session to display on 1 monitor.

I deleted that session collection, created a new one, and was able to edit the 'maximum number of redirected monitors' setting to the desired value of 2 but the remote session still only displays on 1 monitor.

If the session collection is set to 2 monitors and the RDP client is set to 'use all my monitors' why is the remote session only displayed on 1?

Thanks.

How can I Create a Client Configuration File for RemoteApp and Desktop Connection with Server 2012?

$

I have a working RDS RemoteApp site and looking to test out the feature in Windows 7 Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\RemoteApp and Desktop Connections

I came across this link: Create a Client Configuration File for RemoteApp and Desktop Connection and I believe this is what I need to do first, but these instructions are for Server 2008, and I'm running 2012.

Any suggestions or tips on how I can begin testing this with Server 2012?

Can I change the Remote Desktop Services, RDWEB logon screen so that it does not require the domain?

$

I've setup an RDS, RDWeb server for publishing apps, on Server 2012.  Still testing.

Is it possible to set the logon screen so that a user only needs to enter in their user name and not have to reference the domain name?

I came across this link, and I think this is my solution to edit the Login.aspx, but I'm exactly sure as this post is a bit over my head.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/00434c7d-343b-45e4-8e84-9338b5d074a4/do-not-require-domain-name-when-logging-in-to-web-access?forum=winserverTS

I'm trying to simplify this as much as possible.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

I need help & guide on terminal clients internet access.

Q1: How do i enable only 1 terminal client out of 20 current running windows RDP to have access internet?

Q2: When I need to enable internet access for the terminal client, do i need to enable internet access for the current server or host. (I wish for the server to not have internet access due to it is used in local environment only).

I was thinking of GPO and web proxy application but im not sure which is the right tool and whether is it workable.

Thank You.

Switching between apps launched through RemoteApp from Windows 2008 R2 server

I have a problem with RemoteApp on Windows 2008 R2 Standard SP1.

When I try to switch between apps, launched from RD Web Access web-page, it is not always succeded. Instead of it the target app blinks and I still remain at the previous app. In another words, the next app window remains behind the previous app window and I have to minimize the previous app before switching to the next app.

Following the recommendations given by the TechNet Online Chat assistant, I've been installed all the available updates on that server from the Microsoft Update, but it didn't help us.

Is there any way to resolve this trouble?

Thank you.
