RDS 2012 RDWB NLB - Browser timeout fails

$

Hi all

A single PoC RDWB server times out fine during web inactivity with the IIS setting Sites > RDWeb > Pages > Application settings > PrivateModeSessionTimeoutInMinutes & PublicModeSessionTimeoutInMinutes values being adhered to.  However since implementing NLB front end on two RDWB servers and changing to RDS to HA, the session remains permanently active - the user is never logged out.

I'm using MS NLB in Unicast with Single Affinity.

I'm wondering if there's some type of NLB heartbeat interfering with RDS's time-out functionality?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Remote Task Manager Tool

Is there some way I can view / terminate the processes my Server 2012 R2 RDS users are running from a single console?

I am considering moving away from Citrix XenApp which has such a useful feature.

If there is no GUI, can this be done in Powershell so how?

Hello,

My last small problem is that I cannot shadow a simple VDI session.

I always get the same message: The computer name is invald.

More than that when I start the shadow, the computer name looks weird!

Idea??

Windows Server 2012 R2 allow non administrators to force signoff other remote desktop users

With Server 2008 R2, we used to be able to give permissions using Remote Desktop Session Host to allow selected remote desktop users the ability to sign off other remote desktop users. But now with Server 2012 R2, in the Server Manager it  says you have to be logged on as a domain user to manage servers and collections. This server is not part of any domain and it's not going to be. This server is a workgroup. Our company server is used for Quickbooks with about 50 remote desktop users from all over the region.

I don't see any option to perform this task in group policy or local security policy. Remote Desktop Session Host is already installed. Is there another way to bring this up or maybe use the command line to give access?

Shadowing to different port

Hi,

I have an issue with shadowing, in that it doesnt work. Our IT provider insist on changing the RDP listening port to non default, eg 2888, so in order to RDP to a server I have to use 10.10.10.10:2888 in the mstsc gui, for command line this works fine too and I have setup RDS correctly to use this for the clients.

However when it comes to shadowing, it doesnt seem to work. I assume that the default shadow command just tries to connect to 3389

for example "mstsc /shadow:4 /control /V:10.10.10.10"

This brings up the accept dialogue for the user, but when they accept, nothing happens.

If I use "mstsc /V:10.10.10.10:2888" I can RDP to the server without any problem.

However if I use "mstsc /shadow:4 /control /V:10.10.10.10:2888" to shadow a user, it doesnt work and says invalid server name

what am i doing wrong?

Thanks

How to disconnect all domain RDP sessions at specific time every day?

$

Hi!

Environment: around 20 Hyper-V VM's running on Windows Server 2012, all of them used remotely (RDP) by domain users, users have logon time restrictions configured. Right now, I have a policy that disconnects RDP sessions based on how long they have been connected but it is not ideal because they can reconnect a moment before their logon time expire and stay connected after work hours.

So, it would be better if all the rdp sessions closes at specific time (6:00pm in my case).

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks!

Viewing active processes of a user sessions on RDS 2012 R2

Hi,

how can i see which processes a RDS user has active?

When I look in Server Manager/Remote Desktop Services I can seen which user sessions are active, but I can't see which processes are active for a user. In 2008 in Remote Desktop Services Manager you had a tab called Processes, which showed you the active processes on a specific RDS server.

I know you can use Task Manager to look on a remote server, but I find it strange that you can't view this from Remote Desktop Services plugin on Server manager.

Anyone?

Suggestion for Learning about RemoteApp Setup/Requirements

We have a desktop application, that we want others to use/remote in as RemoteApp.

I am not very knowledgeable about how to go about this... and trying to find an A-Z cookbook or explanation about:
a.) What I need to do as far as licenses.

b.) What server needs to be setup..
.. and anything else...
I've tried to look at TechNet articles... but I need an over view, and then a step-by-step.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have to rebuild the RDS on Windows Server 2012, so all Collections were gone. I want to "import" existing virtual desktops into the Collections, but cannot figure out how to achieve it, any suggestion?

Background

The RDS deployment used to have two servers, Server A is having everything and Server B is just RDVH.  Server A have hardware problem and I have to rebuild from scratch.  Before taking done server A, I moved all virtual desktops to Server B.  Now server A is up again with RDS, I want to "import" the virtual desktops into collections.

Thanks for offering any suggestions.

See all RDP connections made in domain

Hi,

I need to monitor the RDP connections made to domain computers, the IP from where the user is connecting and time.

I've tried PSTools (PSLoggedOn) with no success, it gives me errors like

Error browing network: The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available

Is there another tool or way to do this? Maybe using Event Viewer, or some Log file...

Thanks!

Creating Virtual Desktop Collections - VM Template not getting listed

$

Hi All,

We are evaluating VDI solution and I have done the initial setup.

Server VDI01 Configured as RD Virtualization Host. This machine is a physical machine (DL580).

Server VDICB1 Configured as connection broker. This machine is a VM running on Windows 2012 HyperV3 cluster.

Server VDIWA1 configured as RD Webaccess server. This machine is also a VM running on Windows 2012 Hyperv3 cluster.

I was referring the blog http://blog.itvce.com/?p=1569 and was successful till the template creation.

While I am trying to create a Virtual desktop collection, On Specify Virtual Desktop Template, I couldn't get the template listed out.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks for the help.

Certificate question for Gateway, WebApp and Session Host servers.

$

Hi,

Environment:

2x RDG Servers with WebApp role installed - 2012 R2

SERVER01.domain.local - 1x Server with Connection Broker, Session host and Web Access - 2012 R2

SERVER01.domain.local - 1x Server with Connection Broker, Session host and Web Access - 2008 R2

Users connect externally via Remote Desktop and WebApp to 2x Gateway server through a load balancer. Users also access WebApp internally (not through the gateway servers).

Internally there is no issues, users connect up to remote.domain.com internally which redirects to WebApp. Everything good.

Externally though, when going through WebApp using remote.domain.com, users get a certificate error after clicking their application stating the server SERVER01.domain.local is not on the certificate. This is correct as we use a single externally trusted SAN certificate which has the following domains:

remote.domain.com

server01.domain.com

server02.domain.com

server03.domain.com

I have added the SAN certificate into SERVER01 in the trusted certificates area. When I change the name of SERVER01 to server01.domain.com usingSet-RDClientAccessName -ConnectionBroker localhost -ClientAccessName server01.domain.comthis works but then users get the following error message.

How can I make it so that users don't get the certificate mismatch error and keep the the applications working!

Thanks a lot!

RDP-ing from Windows 7 Homegroup PC to Windows 8.1 client hosted on Windows Server 2012 R2 - Can't print

Hello,

We are experiencing an issue when a client wants to print when RDP-ing to our client.

It gives me an error when trying to printh via redericted printer. Says it has to be shared with homegroup and set as default printer ( Which it already is )

->On RDS printing is ticket

-> printer successfully gets redericted from users PC

-> I can see his PC name in port description

When he tries to print this is what we get: http://i.imgur.com/T6vzTKM.png

When trying to troubleshoot: http://i.imgur.com/TNp2bly.jpg

User:

Windows 7 32 bit - Printer is connected with USB

Joined into homegroup - sharing printer is enabled

Client:

Windows 8.1 Enterprise 32 bit

I have checked on both side on network settings and everything is okay. Drivers shouldn't be an issue.

I did not build their homegroup environment and never really worked with homegroups.

Any advice is welcome.

I have tried to post on HP forums but no luck,

Thank You for reading.

RemoteApp ignoring Taskbar when resolution is 1366x768

$

Hi,

I've got a problem with RemoteApps on a Windows Server 2008R2 SP1 RDS server.  Basically, if the client resolution is 1366x768, the RemoteApp ignores the Taskbar and, when maximized, covers the entire screen of the Windows 7 x64 client, covering the Taskbar entirely.  This happens with any RemoteApp, including Microsoft Office 2010 - I've been using Word 2010 as my test RemoteApp.

If I change resolution to anything available on the client other than 1366x768, it works as expected - the maximized RemoteApp does not cover the Taskbar.  This isn't a fix though - almost the entire fleet of laptops that will be using the RemoteApps have 1366x768 as their native resolution and my users won't stand for running the laptop panels with a non-native resolution.

I've installed various hotfixes to try and solve the problem, including those that have been suggested before:

  • http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2582172

but these did not fix the issue.  I've also tried various other hotfixes in the hope that a more recent build of the relevant files has silently fixed the problem, so e.g. the current versions I'm working with of some key files are:

  • rdpcore.dll - 6.1.7601.17825
  • rdpshell.exe - 6.1.7601.22055
  • mstsc.exe (on my Windows 7 client) - 6.1.7601.21855

but nothing so far has actually fixed this issue.  I think those are the latest versions of those files available in hotfixes at the time of writing.

My test laptop is a very ordinary Dell Latitude E5510 running the current version of the Intel display drivers (8.15.10.2827) on Win7 SP1 x64.  I've tried earlier versions of the drivers too but they haven't made any difference.

Anyone got a clue about this?  It's the last issue holding up my RDS rollout.

Thanks,

James

Bootable USB/DVD client with 2012R2 RDS Gateway

Server 2012R2 RDS Farm using an RDS Gateway.

I'd like to build a bootable USB drive that has some sort of OS on it that a client can boot from, that will then allow me to connect to our environment via RDP. There's lots of linux distros etc out there but I can't seem to find one that has the ability to connect via an RD Gateway, they all seem to just have a regular port 3389 RDP client on them.

Does anyone know a bootable OS that I can put on a USB drive that will allow connection via an RDGateway?

Alternatively is there a way of getting windows to boot off a USB drive and then I can just script a logon script to start an .RDP file.

Thanks.

the role of SCVMM2012R2 in deploying VDI

Hello

i am not sure about the role of SCVMM 2012 in VDI (dekstop virtualization).

i have read many articles about VDI, but in non of them i have seen anything about SCVMM.

SCVMM is always discussed in "private cloud" articles.

so does SCVMM has a role in deploying VDI?

let me clarify my scenario, in my organization, we want to purchase thin clients for our users and we will deploy about 200 virtual machines on our hyper-v Host servers. here do we need SCVMM 2012 R2 ?

note that i don't want to create a private cloud which is complicated process.

in fact i need to know, about deploying VDI, whether we can use SCVMM only to bulk create VMs and for managing those VMs with more capabilities ?

thanks in advanced

Where is the Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration tool in Server 2012 ?

Where is the Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration tool in Server 2012 ?

This is an MMC snap-in found on earlier servers, even if RDS is not installed.  In Server 2012, even if the Remote Desktop Session Host role is installed, this tool is still not available.

I'm looking for the Server 2012 tool to adjust security settings like TLS authentication, High encryption level, choice of TLS certificate, NLA, etc.

Thanks!

2012 Remote Desktop Services Unpublished Apps are showing

Scenario:

I fail to un-publish applications prior to uninstalling RDS, uninstalled RDS, did the reboot, re-installed RDS, rebooted.  And now All of the old apps are still showing in RDweb.  The applications are not showing as being published in Server Manager, so I'm at a loss where these are coming from.
