Prevent same remoteapps from launching on second computer?

$

I'm running a 2012R2 RDS environment. I launch an application and leave it running on my desktop. I login to my laptop and launch the same application (paint).  The application is transferred to the laptop with the content added while on my desktop. The application is closed on the desktop with an error displayed.  How can I prevent this from occurring if needed?

Moving RDS Servers to new Server

RDS 2012R2 with a GW and 4 SH's and 1 CB (all separate vm's). The physical server needs to be replaced and we have that replacement server ready with server 2016 core installed. I would like to know the proper way to move these VM's to the new server without breaking the RDS vm servers? I think i know but would like to hear from someone else who has done this:

in hyper-v manager, right click the vm's and select move. We have different folders for all the different config/drive files

Is it REALLY that easy or will this break RDS? I want to make sure before because all the "pointers" in the RDS DB may reflect the old physical server or something like that.....

RDP screen goes black after successful remote login

I have a Windows 2008 Server that I have been connecting to once a month remotely to apply OS updates.  Often, I reboot that server and it uses auto-logon to login and run an application.

Today, I rebooted the server and when I try to connect with RDP, I get the login prompt and enter my credentials, I see a few expected messages fly by on the host OS (the last one I see is the word Welcome), but then the screen goes black.

The apps on the server are running successfully because our applications can connect to them, we just can't logon to the desktop of the Windows Server 2008.

I made no configuration changes (I NEVER do) other than to apply the latest Windows Server updates.

I would prefer not to drive to the computers location, or try to coordinate a time to have the server hosting company assist me with troubleshooting; but is there anything else I can do?  Any ideas about what might cause this?

Unable to delete files within a User Profile Disk

Hi All,

We have the following problem, we are running a Windows Server 2012 (non R2) Session Host server using User Profile Disks. A user creates a new folder within their "Documents" folder, this new folder contains different file types eg, PDF, ZIP, DOC.

When the user tries to delete a file of the entire folder they are prompted by UAC. The user is not able to delete without an Administrator account confirming the UAC prompt.

We have checked the users security rights, the user has full access to the new folder and all files within.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

RDS 2012 r2 collections show black screen and then close

$

Greetings,

We have just deployed two Server 2012 r2 RDS Session collections (each with two RDSH servers, and both going through the same gateway/broker server), and during testing had no issues, but as soon as we rolled it into production, our users have been experiencing black screens when attempting to log in, and the Remote Desktop window just closes (no actual login is performed).

This seems to happen intermittently, and on both collections at different times.  I thought I had solved it initially by disabling use of UDP in the RDP clients, but it wasn't a permanent fix.

Looking at the event log of one of the affected servers, There seems to be an Event ID 36 generated at every logon attempt with the following message:An error occurred when transitioning from CsrConnected in response to EvCsrInitialized. (ErrorCode 0x80070102)

After scouring the web looking for answers, nothing came up.  Any help here would be appreciated.

Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop - The requested session access is denied

Hi, I have been using Windows Server 2008 R2 since it was released, and have 100 servers up and running. I configured Allow Remote Desktop on all of them and have been able to connect to them and manage them via RDP since then. I also have two servers configured as Remote Desktop Services.

That was up until yesterday. Yesterday afternoon I started getting the The requested session access is denied. I managed all Terminal services via Group Policy and have three users entered.

I am connecting to the servers via Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7. Both clients have been updated to the latest Remote Desktop Services client.

I have been searching for the answer, and I am not finding it.

I have also tried KB954369 without any success.

Thanks,

Brian

Windows Remote Desktop Session Host - Server 2012 R2 - Cannot connect more than two users

Hello everyone,

I have a license server for Remote Desktop on a DC and have a few Windows Servers with Session Host installed. They don't have Session Broker installed and I followed the article here to set them up:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2833839

The problem is every time I connect to the third session on the same server through RD which already has the license server specified through WMIObject for terminalServerSetting class and session host service installed, it asks me to log off any one of the two user first which are already logged in. This is happening to me on all the servers.

Any help will be much appreciated.

RDS 2012 R2 Certification Configuration

I've been struggling with a certificate issue for some time now in my test environment. I have an SSL cert with a common name of docgw.jdisonsite.com, my domain name is ad.092674.jdisonsite.com. My RDS deployment consists of:

docrdbroker01 - connection broker & licensing

docrdgwy01 - web access and gateway

rdsh01-04 - session hosts.

I've configured my deployment to use the ssl cert I purchased from godaddy and web access trusts the cert. However when I try to launch one of my applications I get the following error message:

The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified:

Name mismatch:

Requested Remote computer: docrdbroker01.jdisonsite.com

Name in the certificate from the remote computer: docgw.jdisonsite.com

Certificate errors: The server name on the certificate is incorrect.

I've added a DNS entry for docrdbroker01.jdisonsite.com and it resolves to the broker. This is in a test environment, in my production environment I use a wildcard (*.jdisonsite.com) and using the Set-RDPublishedName.ps1 script and all is well https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Change-published-FQDN-for-2a029b80 This doesn't seem to provide the same result in my test environment.

My question is do I need to purchase a UUC SSL and add docbroker01.jdisonsite.com as an alternative name or is there another way to fix this?

RDP in to Server 2012 R2 getting black screen

I am sure this topic has been discussed many times from the Internet.  Some people suggested CRTL-ALT-END from the client, some suggested to turn off Presistent Bitmap Caching from the Experience tab under RDP, uninstall Powershell 2.0 etc...  None of this work for me.  Does anyone have a better recommendation?

Thanks,

Remote Desktop Connection Broker High availability

$

Hi Experts,

I'm trying to create a Remote Desktop Farm using Windows Server 2016 and although I have success with parts of it, I'm not having any success in configuringRD Connection Broker for High Availability.

I have 4 Windows 2016 Servers:

1. RDBC.domain.local - running RD Web Access, RD Gateway and RD Connection Broker

2. SQL-License.domain.local - running RD Licensing and SQL Server 2012

3. RD01.domain.local - running Remote Desktop Session Host

4. RD02.domain.local - running Remote Desktop Session Host

=================================================

Although I've followed this article:

https://thewolfblog.com/2014/02/02/configuring-ha-for-the-remote-desktop-connection-broker/

And have temporarily disabled the windows firewall on both RDBC.domain.local andSQL-License.domain.local servers, I keep getting this error when going through the "Configure High Availability" wizard:

I've checked;

Database Server available - Yes

Database exists and empty - tried it with and without database but it still returns the same error

Database Server Native Client installed - Yes and check it by clicking on the Drivers tab in"ODBC Data Source Administrator"

RD Connection Broker has write permission to the database - How can I confirm this? I'm sure it does...

Any ideas what else I can try in order to get a successfull configuration for RD High Availability?

Kind Regards

Hello,

we have office 2016 and we have a program as remoteapp that can export to excel. when users try to send this excel (spawned from the remoteapp) as mail the user gets this error:

You need to create a Microsoft Outlook profile. In Microsoft Windows, go to the Control Panel and open Mail. Click Show Profiles, and then click Add.

and then:

Mail system failure. check you mail installation

i read in some posts that this reg key should help (ive also tried not in polices):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover

Dword = ZeroConfigExchange

Value = 1

but i get the same error.

is there a way to auto create the mail profile when an application requires it? or maybe i can run some app that will auto-create the profile on first login?

thanks,

Sean

RDS Licensing: No Remote Desktop client access licenses

Hello,

I am in need of some assistance with RDS licensing on Windows Server 2012 R2.  We have two users that remote in via RemoteApp link.  I also remote in using Remote Desktop with the /admin switch occasionally for management.  We have purchased two RDS CAL licenses to make sure our two remote users can use their RemoteApp concurrently.

I am getting reports of "RemoteApp Disconnected" "The remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop client access licenses available for this computer".

It seems something is incorrect with my licensing as I only have the two users.  When I last look at my connections in server manager I only saw one active one and the other disconnected.  When I look at my licensing I see that I do have two, but one is retail and the other one is open.  I purchased both licenses retail, but one last year and one this year from different vendors.

Did I just install them wrong?  Should this be an issue as I do have two licenses installed?  What can I try to resolve this?

Windows Server 2012 - Installed RDS Per User CAL Retail Purchase 1 (total) 1 (available)

Remove Desktops from RDWeb page

All,

I've been testing RDS deployment using PowerShell, which means I've installed and uninstalled the various roles several times, but each time I do this (i.e. re-install RDG/Web and other components) the RDWeb page has the previous Desktops still published.

I had assumed that the RDWeb page was built from the Windows Internal Database, which I have removed each time, but clearly this is incorrect.

Server Manager >RDS shows only one desktop published, i.e. the correct one.

I need to remove the 'spare' Desktops without affecting service if possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Remote Desktop not working after switching router (but maintaing PC's IP Address)

$

We recently upgraded one of our customer's network (WAN) to Fiber and installed new routers in several sites. The customer is migrating from an iVPN scenario where multiple sites establish IPSec tunnels to a central router (in the company's HQ) to a scenario where the Central router is nor required for all sites to communicate with each other. All IP addressing was maintained. What the client is noticing is that in some sites the computers cannot initiate the remote desktop session when using the new fiber line and router (the login process happens, it tries to connect then returns an error) yet we can Telnet to the remote TS server over port 3389 without any problems...  when we switch back to the old ADSL line and router (computer maintains the IP Address) the computer can establish the Remote Desktop session without any problems.

Our Client's IT support is struggling with this problem and hasn't found a solution yet. It doesn't seem to be a connectivity issue as there are 3 sites that are working perfectly with the new fiber line and router. Could it be a licensing problem? Cloud there be some kind of binding that isn't released when the computer switches to the new fiber line and router (yet maintaining the same IP address)? I've read about NAP in TS Server, could it be something along those lines? The IT tech mentioned an Error 21 in the Server's Event Log...

The Licencing type is "Device", and according to the IT Tech there are licenses available.

Any ideas as to what might be behind this strange behaviour? I apologize if there are some important details or information that might be missing, but this isn't a product that I'm totally familiar with :-( I'm trying to help are customer in getting things up and running.

I thank you in advance for your attention into this matter.

RDS 2012: 2 brokers with hardware loadbalancer before it, how are connections going after succesfull logon?

$

Hi,

When you install RDS 2012 with 2 brokers WITHOUT the gateway component and put a hardware loadbalancer before it (to divide the load), how do the connections run?
We know that we can bring down the brokers but can we also bring down the hardware loadbalancer? Iow, are the connections going directly from client to backend or is the hardware loadbalancer still needed?

Please advise. Also looking for a diagram/picture which explains this.
