RDP and left-handed mouse users

$

Hi there,

I'm a left-handed person. So I use the mouse with my left hand and naturally I use "Switch primary and secondary buttons" mouse control panel option.

When it comes to RDP connections, I almost always connect to the desktops where "Switch primary and secondary buttons" is set for right handed people. When I'm inside an RDP session the mouse stops respecting my mouse settings and apply guest desktop settings which creates a lot of confusion to me.

Is there a way to setup my RDP client so that it automatically handles right vs. left buttons translation ?

RemoteApps desktop feed not showing folders

RDS2012 implementation.

I have several apps published into folders, this works fine when viewed in IE with RDweb however when I set up a Work Resources feed in Control Panel RemoteApps and Desktops, the published apps all appear on the Start menu, however none of the folders are present so all apps are jumbled togethers.

Is there any way to get Workresources feed to populate the apps into their folders same as they are in RDweb.

thanks

Server 2012 R2 user profile disks and outlook search not working

$

Hi,

I`m having a problem with my setup for quite some time now with Windows Search and indexing the outlook OST files.

I`m using user profile disks in my setup but it seems that Windows Search can`t index the user profile disks, hence when i`m searching in outlook (the OST file is located in the user profile disk) with windows search enabled i`m not getting any results because it can`t index the OST file.

If I don`t use the disks then windows search works fine but because i`m using clustered TS servers I need the profile disks and I don`t want to go back to redirects if possible..

At the moment I`ve disabled Windows Search which forces outlook to search online, it works but is slow..

Server 2012 refusing RDP admin connection (no licensing)

Hello, I am trying to remote into Windows Server 2012, which I did for months, but am now getting this error:

"The remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop License Servers available to provide a license"

How can I fix this and why do I need a license server? I just want to log in to do administration, which doesn't require a CAL per below.

Do I have to acquire RDS CALs if I am only remotely administering Windows Server operating systems by using
Remote Desktop for Administration?

No. Up to two users may connect to the Windows Server operating system simultaneously to perform administrative
functions without needing any RDS CALs. Additional administrative users need the appropriate RDS CALs.

I am stuck right now. Any pointers please?

Thanks for any help.

TS 2016 RemoteApp does not have sufficient rights

I'm having a problem with Server 2016 TS RemoteApp.

When a user logs in directly on the server via RDP, the app they need opens without any problems. When trying to open the same app via the same user but with remoteapp, the app complains the user doesn't have the necessary rights... which I don't understand because the user HAS the necessary rights.

I'm guessing there's a setting I'm missing, but I'm unable to find out which one it is.

FYI: the user logs in just fine, the profile is ok, it only happens when using remoteapp.

Please advice cause I'm out of idea's.

Group Policy issues when using User Profile Disks

$

Hi all

We are seeing some interesting behavior here with User specific Group Policy settings when user profiles are being stored in User Profile Disks.

First, a little background information on the setup:

This environment is based on 2012 R2 Session based desktops and the UPDs are stored on a Windows Server 2012 R2 SOFS Cluster. The Forest is exclusively based on 2012 R2 domain controllers and was built new at a Domain / Forest Functional Level of 2012 R2. AD and SYSVOL DFSR replication are both functioning correctly with no issues whatsoever.

The session Collection is configured to exlcude My Docs, My Pics, My Music, My Downloads and Favorites, all of which are redirected to sub-folders within the users home folder. AppData\Local is included in User Profile Disks as an additionally included folder.

Here is the crux of the problem...

A new user logs in and a UPD is generated in the normal fashion. During this time, User specific Group Policy is applied (such as printers, desktop shortcuts, drive maps etc.)

Now a change is made to Group Policy (let's say an additional drive map for example).

The same user as before (with an existing User Profile Disk already generated) logs back in.

In this scenario, the new Group Policy settings are not applied at all, even after repeated restarts, policy refreshes.

If we then remove the same users UPD and get the user to log back in (thus generating a new UPD again), all of the policy settings are applied as expected. Once again however, any new settings introduced do not apply thereafter.

It is as if for some reason policy settings are only being applied once at initial user profile creation time when using User Profile Disks.

Standard user profiles (either local or roaming) behave in a normal fashion.

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

Virtual IP Addressing

Server: Windows 2008 R2 Standard
Client: Windows 7 Enterprise
RDP Client: 6.1.7600

I have followed the posting
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2009/10/18/windows-7-windows-server-2008-r2-remote-desktop-ip-virtualization.aspx
Using the registry option to set a group of IP addresses.

However, after rebooting the server I still do not get a virtual IP address assigned.  The IP address of the server 10.10.20.6 is the only IP address returned when doing an ipconfig /all (when connecting as an administrator OR connecting as an end user).

Here are the registry settings as exported from the server:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\TSAppSrv]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\TSAppSrv\TSMSI]

"VirtualMode"=dword:00000000
"AdapterAddress"="00-13-21-09-DD-AE"

Profile picture not saved when user log off

I have terminal servers farm with 2 RDSH Servers 2012 and User Profile Disk. I have Desktop Experience Feature installed on both servers. I add picture to account from Personalize/account Picture, and when user log off picture is missing. Looks like server didn’t save this to user profile disk.

Did I miss something or this feature is not enabled for remote desktop server role.

Thanks

App show up on my web workspace, but not in my Remoteapp Programs list

Hi,

I've setup a remote desktop services server (server 2012R2). All works fine.  I have one "problem".

If i log in on the workspace webpage, i see the default apps that came with the default installation, being  Calculator, Paint and Wordpad.

I want to remote these to install my own apps.

When, on the server, i start server manager, and go to Remote Desktop Services, I drill down to  Collections, Remote apps. In my Remote app programs window nothing is listed.  So i cannot select them to remove.

Is there any way i can remote those apps, to have a clean start ?

Thank

Windows 2012 RDS farm licensing

$

Hi,

We have built a Windows 2012 RDS "farm" and have also purchased 100 RDS CALs from MPSA.

Would someone instruction what do I need to do to make the 120 days warning goes away?  How do I apply the license to each RDS host?  Do I need to do anything on my connection broker?  I also have a file server that holds the roaming profile of the user.  I should not need to apply the CALs to it, right?
