I do not get any sound when connecting via RDWEB.

Under session collection--> Client Setting,  Enable Audio and Video playback is checked

If I make a direct RDP connection to the RDS Host, audio comes through fine.

Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

2012 RDS - Have to keep adding server to pool every time I log in to be able to manage RDS

Hello

I have an RDS session based deployment with 2 Broker servers configured as HA. They are RD session hosts and web access servers as well. In addition, I have two more server that are purely session hosts. Ever since I added the second server to the deployment, when I go to Remote Desktop services (in server manager) I have been getting the message that the other server (name is listed correctly) is not part of the pool and needs to be added. Once I add it through Manage>Add server I can see RDS management. Is this supposed to work like this? It is cumbersome to have to add server every time. Now that I have 4 servers in the deployment I have to add multiple servers to the pool every time I start a new rdp session.

Server 2012 R2 RD Connection Brokers for Server 2012 Session Hosts?

Good day,

I was wondering if it is possible to have your RD Connection Brokers, Web Access servers, and License servers installed on Server 2012R2, and be able to join Session Hosts that are built on Server 2012 to the farm?  Thank you for any input.

Antivirus for RDS Server 2012 R2?

I've been searching for a similar thread with now luck.  I apologize in advance if this is out there already.  I have a 2012 R2 server running RDS.  My clients will need to use the Internet on a limited basis through the remote desktop client, so I would like to have an anti-virus installed.  What anti-virus solution would be recommended?  Thank you for your assistance.

Roaming profiles and RemoteApp profiles

Here's a very strange behavior that my users are experiencing.

Our environment:

  1. Windows 7 Enterprise x64
  2. Local domain controller at the branch (Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise)
  3. Users use RemoteApp to access JD Edwards. We have 2 clustered RemoteApp servers
  4. All our users have folder redirection and roaming profiles enabled via GPO

Issue:

The issue seems to happen only with users that need access to our RemoteApp servers. Basically, after they've been logged on to our RemoteApp servers (usually most of the day, because they have to use JD Edwards), when they log off for the day, their profile changes and resembles the profile they have on the remote servers. In other words, their windows roaming profile now reflects the remote desktop server's profile (the powershell icon and the server manager icon appear on the users' task bar).

Is there a way to eliminate this behavior?

scaling remote desktop display to larger size ("pixel doubling") ?

I'm displaying the console of various remote hosts using Remote Desktop on my 2560x1600 display, and they come out very small. I would like to enlarge the RDP windows and have the remote displays' pixels increased in size accordingly. Is this possible?

I initially thought RDP smart sizing would take care of this but it seems this feature only supports making pixels smaller (scaling down, not up).

Note that I want any configuration changes to be done to my local machine only. Changing text size, DPI, or any other desktop related setting on remote hosts is undesired as they are correctly setup when used in other contexts.

Thanks
Mike

Serious! Windows 2012 RDS cannot start / refresh anymore!

I go a problem which seems serious, please help to comment if any idea..

I have a Windows 2012 server with RDS / Hyper-V installed and configured properly; I created 4 virtual desktop collections (Win7/Win8) and they were all running well; then I tried to create unmanaged virtual desktop pool with Win7/Win8 -- somehow it did not work and reported error message advising that the creation had failed; I then tried to create unmanaged pool with W2K8R2 and it worked -- however, RDS cannot refresh in server manager anymore, and after I restarted the server, the RDS cannot view cannot display anymore in server manager e.g. the collections are not shown and it keeps refreshing but no output.

I tried to access RD web access and it still works -- however I can see the unmanaged pool of Win7/Win8 there which should not exist as they failed; I clicked on them and they were just empty;

I can see an error message in RDS Servers/Events saying there is a collection "NULL" so the DB visit failed;

It looks to me like Windows RDS failed to create the 2 unmanaged pools but they did get created in DB so the conflict is now blocking the RDS to continue; problem is now there seems no tool/option to fix it?

Any advice please?

Thanks,

Leon Li

RDS - rdp for admins redirecting/confusion

$

Hi All

I have setup a test RDS environment which comprises of the following servers/roles

Server1 Roles/Info

Gateway role

RD Web role

Connection Broker role

Server2 Roles/Info

Session Host role

Member of RDS Farm

Weight 100

Server3 Roles/Info

Session Host role

Member of RDS Farm

Weight 80

I have added DNS entries for the rds farm name pointing to the 2 host session servers. On Server1 I have added the farm name as a remoteapp source (I’m not sure if this was necessary)

On the 2 Host session servers in host session configuration – RD Connection Broker properties – RD Connection Broker tab – Change settings, I have selected farm member and added the connection broker server name and the farm name. I have also added different weights to  load balance accordingly. So far so good. If I test going through RDWeb and selecting a remoteapp it goes to the higher weighted server so that seems to work.

My problem is if I try and RDP (purely for admin purposes) onto the less weighted server (Server3) the RDP session seems to redirect back to the higher weighted server again. Is this to be expected with my setup? I essentially don’t want rdp sessions for admins to be confused with RDS environment.  All logins through RDWeb and rdp sessions are using a Domain Admin account.

Ideally I only want users to have remoteapp access. Not RDP

Server 2012 R2 Pooled VDI Collection creation failed

$

Good morning all:

I have created a new 2012 R2 cluster for VDI purposes.  The cluster passed each Cluster Validation test.  The cluster also contains CSV storage, a virtual switch per host, and the required roles for RDS and Hyper-V.  The virtual switch is configured for External access and the Nexus 5K is configured with all necessary VLANs (180, 181, etc).  The RD Hosts sit on what I will call the 180 network.  The virtual switches have a 180 network address.  Our VDI will require DHCP addresses from another network I will call 181.

The RDS VDI collection creation is failing with the status message:

"Failed: A new virtual desktop could not be created from the desktop template.  Ensure that all Hyper-V servers in the deployment have the same configuration, and then try again."

My intial suspicion is with DHCP.  I have seen other posts warning about DHCP.  Currently there is no DHCP space available on the 180 network.  What steps would I take to allow the VDI collection to be created using DHCP from the 181 network?

Any other suggestions or steps to verify correct setup is appreciated.

Remote Web appin win2012 server local Drive need to be hide for Remote users while using wordpad app or notepad app

Hi,

I need a solution to hide local drive of my Remote web server for remote user who is using only remote app such as wordpad or notepad.i dont want to user to save fiel on server drive ,i dont want them to see my remote web app server local drive  while saving document, user shuld only be seeing there local machine drive/

please help me with the solutions if any 1 has tried or implemented in there organization.

But there is some limitations as,

1-User still detect the remote app server local hard disk additional to his drives, (But I don’t need client to detect the server hard disks)!

2-The saving wizard for the User when he save his document, is Windows server 2008 R2 console, (but I need the saving console will be same as the client version that user has)!

And at same time I don’t need to redirect the user to save his files to common network share Mapping on file server, as the requirement is to keep the users still saving files to local machines,

RDSH 2012 R2 Bandwidth

$

Hello, I'm planning to move from ctrix xenapp 4.5 Under 2003 to Windows Server 2012 R2 RDSH and Windows 8.1 as RDSH client.

Under Citrix XenApp 4.5 customers are using an average bandwidth of 30kbps (per user) with office applications, internet browsing, and one pro software and they have no sound. The printers are using normal network print flow (port 9100, with  a lower QoS priority than XenApp Flow), there are some local scanners and local printers.

There are 3 users per branch office connected with a 512 kbps wan link to the main office.

I've seen a lot about the bandwidth optimisation with RDS 2012 R2, but no bandwidth calculation methods. My WAN provider says that we must plan about 128Kbps per user, But this result is based on Windows RDS 2008 bandwidth.

What can I expect with RDSH 2012 R2?

Regards, L.H.

server 2012 VDI - User Profile Disks is full - Cant do anything on session

I have a pooled 15 windows 7 scenario.

User profile disks are being used. When i created the collection i set the max to 20GB. Well users are now hitting the 20gb threshold and the profile disks need to be increased.

I increased the VHDx how you normally would. Hyper-v see it as a 40GB disks but from within the sessions its giving me an error that there isnt enough disk space.

If i remove files from the UPD and free up some space then that user has no issues.

anyone know how to increase the UPD size quota?

Windows 2008 R2 TS VPN connection closed when another user logs in

Hi.

I have a W 2008 R2 Ent. server with TS

I have VPN on the TS configured with a L2TP/Ipsec connection to connect to a customer site

Users will remote into the server, and make a VPN connection (click on shortcut to start VPN) and access the customer's site. This has worked OK for 2 years often with several users logged into the TS via RDP.

Recently users are encountering this problem: User A logs into the TS, makes VPN connection, accesses customer site. User B logs into the TS, user A's VPN connection is broken immediately. It seems to happen every time - not sporadic.

Can I get some suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks!

Offline RD server

I have the following configuration (just set up):

TS-SRV acts as Licensing, Gateway and Session Broker server for farm named… "Farm" :)

TS-01 and TS-02 — usual RD Servers. They have DNS record: ts.mydomain.local for 10.0.1.15 and 10.0.1.16 accordingly.

As far as I understood the mechanism of Session Broker, it connects to any server first, then server asks Session Broker if it has any sessions. So I can use ts.mydomain.local as my farm name to set up the client.

Let assume that user is connecting to ts.mydomain.local and getting 10.0.1.16 as RD Server. Client is trying to connect to 10.0.1.16 and it's offline. Offline server, sure, can't connect to Session Broker to ask for sessions.

The connection is broken. User can't work.

How to avoid it or may be I misunderstood the conception?

We are not using domain controller on the Windows 2008 R2 Server it is set to workgroup.

Any help ASAP would be greatly appricated.

Disable Multiple Remote Desktop Sessions

$

I want to know how to go in the registry or terminal services management on my Windows 2003 server machine and disable multiple remote desktop sessions. I hate remoting in from one place and not getting my locally logged in desktop session, it generates a new session and lets you have multiple simultaneous different remote sessions open. I know this is a "feature" for some but it annoys me because I leave applications running locally and then remote in and cannot get to the already open documents etc.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

RD Web Access to RemoteApp SSO

$

I am trying to set up this scenario, and with the most popular SSO post, it doesn't seem to work/isn't meant for this purpose.

A user connects to TS Web Access. They are prompted for their username/password using Forms Authentication (like normal). They are connecting from a non-domain computer. They enter their credentials, and are given a list of RemoteApps to run. When they click on an app, they are given a certificate warning (which is OK) and then another certificate warning (also OK) and are connected to the app using the Forms credentials they entered earlier.

That is the IDEAL scenario. This is what I am experiencing. A user logs in with their account to the form. They connect to the RemoteApp and are prompted for another set of credentials. If I enable SSO, it passes the user's currently logged in (Windows) credentials instead of the form credentials. I also have to change a policy setting on the local box in order to get SSO to work (The delegate credentials one).

So, question 1: Is this even possible?? And question 2: How do I get the Forms credentials to pass to the RemoteApp session?

RD Web Access SSO not working correctly

$

I have two Win 2008 r2 sp1 servers.  Both are RD Session host servers.  One of them is also serving as a RD Gateway server AND RD Web access server.  Most everything is working well and as planned.  However, I am having an issue with the the RD Web Access.

In the RD Web access server configuration page, I've set "One or more RemoteApp sources" and I've added two servers there, separated by a semicolon (eg RDServer1;RDServer2), and as expected a long list of RemoteApps hosted on both servers is shown .  The issue is that whatever server is listed second (eg RDServer2) won't allow sso to work right  -- when I click a link for a RemoteApp hosted on RDServer1 I am not prompted again for login credentials.  However, when clicking a link for a RemoteApp hosted on RDServer2 I am prompted "Enter Your Credentials".  I've tried swapping the order of the "Source Name" servers, and after a reboot indeed links to the RemoteApps hosted on that second server now prompt for me to "Enter your credentials".

Things I've tried:

1. Trying various server name formats (IP address, NetBIOS name, FQDN, and more) to no apparent effect.

2. Applied the hotfix from KB2524668 to both servers.

3. Flushed the IE caches for the client machines.

4.  Tried various AD login accounts

5. Ensuring that the RD Web Access server is added to the local group "TS Web Access Computers" on both servers. This is one step that I'm not 100% sure of -- it is clear to me that the RD Session host server that doesn't contain RD Web access should be there, but I'm not totally clear as to whether the dual-duty RD Web server/RD Session host should have this setting. I've tried it both ways, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I'm stumped.

RD Web access SSO - remote desktop doesn't work

$

Hi,

This is my first post in here, and I hope you gays can help me out.

I am currently experiencing some issues with RD Web SSO not working as I would like it to work.  I have found countless articles and guides describing how to get it to work, but no guide have yet helped me.

The problem is that when I log in on the web access and open a published application everything works fine I wait 5 sec and the application pups up, but when I try to open "Remote Desktop" then I get a new log in box where I must enter my log in credentials again (after entering my credentials everything work great.)

The problems I am currently facing is produced in a demo environment configured as follows:

1x DC server (DC01) also the lic server
2x RDS server (RDS01/02)
1x RDS Connection broker (RDCM01)   I have created a farm named "farm01.mydomain.com"
1x RDS Web access server (RDWA01)
1x RDS Gateway (RDSGW01)
(All the Servers are installed with Windows server 2008 (R2) SP1, and have the latest update.)

I am publishing my demo environment on the internet, i have created a domain name for my gateway and my web access and they are both accessible from the web (rdwa.mydomain.com and rdsgw.mydomaim,com). I also have secured everything with an SSL wildcard certificate ( my external and intern domain names are the same so I am using one SSl certificate) that is trusted on the web.

when I  log in on the web access server trough (IE9 or IE8 ) from another network(wan) and I open a published application (calculator), it pop ups in just a few seconds. But when I try to open my Remote desktop I get a login box where I must enter my username and password one more time.. after that remote desktop opens and everything works great.

My laptop is a Windows 7 professional with RDP 7 and IE 9, and is not member of a domain (just a workstation), I have tested it from multiple workstations and networks(Also win 7 and RDP7) but even there I have the same problem.

Thinks that I have tried tell now:

  • I have created a kerberos account as mentioned on MSDN
  • I have checked my group permissions as mentioned here
  • And many more blogs and forums
  • I have tried multiple settings on RDCM, RDWA, RDSGW and RDS server

Right now I am out of ideas, and I hope you gays can help me out..

thanks in advance,

Pouyan
