RD Web Access

$

We are hosting a remoteapp for users that are not on the same AD domain that the remoteapp servers are on.  We are trying to avoid having the clients install any files so sso is not an option.

What I would like is for the users to not have to login on the RD Web access page and instead just be presented with the page that shows there apps.

I have tried setting all of the pages to anonymous authentication and entered credentials for the anonymous to use.  I have also commented out the module and security section of the webconfig file and that does not work.  Do I need to store the anonymous web credentials in the web config file and if so, how and where.

Please advise

I curently have TS Web Access configured and is running on Windows Server 2008 R2 this is my scenario.

User logs onto TS Web Access with there username and password

User clicks on Remote Desktop tab

User enters the server name in the connect to field

User clicks on Connect

User is then prompted to enter there username and password

Then the remote desktop connection is established

Is it possibel to remove the second authentication step? is it possible to have single sign on so that the details used to logn to the TS Web Access pass through to the RDP authentication?

Integrating RD Web SSO with external authentication through SAML based SSO from a related site (Active Directory Federation Services)

I am looking for help configuring (or more probably writing an extension for) RD Web of Windows Server 2008 R2 so that a user that has previously been authenticated at a related site can be mapped to a local user in our Remote Desktop farm and get access to RemoteApp applications without an additional signon. I have got it working to use a single signon in the RD Web site so far (sign on to RD Web, and no additional sign on after clicking a RemoteApp). But I want to use the SAML authentication token from the other site so that when they link a user to us that has already been authenticated by them, the user does not have to enter a username/password at all at our site.

Any advice? Where can I find documentation for reconfiguring the SSO authentication or writing my own authentication module that supports SSO? I have dug around the RD Web files but I have so far been unable to determine how the login credentials are passed from the login in the web browser to the rdp client. I can see the signed RDP file contents sent from the server urlencoded, but they do not seem to contain any credentials token.

Windows 2012 R2 - Intermittent RDP Printing

$

Hello!

I have built a Windows 2012 R2 server with Remote Desktop Services running on it.  Remote users are having trouble with inconsistent printing through their RDP clients.  Their printers show up as redirected printers and do print sometimes, but other times nothing prints - the user click print, select their printer, and nothing shows up.  Later it will just start working for them again.  The problem seems to be universal - it is happening on clients with different versions of Windows, different printer models, and different printer manufacturers.  Has anyone seen this?  Are there any hotfixes for this that I can install?  I have all of the latest Windows Updates installed.

Thanks... Dave

RDP screen goes black after successful remote login

I have a Windows 2008 Server that I have been connecting to once a month remotely to apply OS updates.  Often, I reboot that server and it uses auto-logon to login and run an application.

Today, I rebooted the server and when I try to connect with RDP, I get the login prompt and enter my credentials, I see a few expected messages fly by on the host OS (the last one I see is the word Welcome), but then the screen goes black.

The apps on the server are running successfully because our applications can connect to them, we just can't logon to the desktop of the Windows Server 2008.

I made no configuration changes (I NEVER do) other than to apply the latest Windows Server updates.

I would prefer not to drive to the computers location, or try to coordinate a time to have the server hosting company assist me with troubleshooting; but is there anything else I can do?  Any ideas about what might cause this?

Remote App freezes, but works fine in Remote Desktop

I have a commercial application, written in Visual Basic, that locks up when you run it as a remote app. It can lock up 10 times a day. Restart the app and it works for a while then locks up again. If I run the same app from the remote desktop it works fine. Does anyone have any idea why this would cause this behavior? What is different when running remote app vs remote desktop? I thought they were essentially the same. BTW -  this is on Server 2008 r2 and we run other apps that don't exhibit this behavior. They are written in other languages though.

Internal server name .local and having a certificate mismatch

I have one RD server with all the roles on it and I'm receiving a SSL certificate error because my internal server name is a .local and the SSL has been assigned to my apps.domainname.com address.

I've ran the powershell cmdlet Set-RDPublishedName to reflect the apps.domainname.com, but this doesn't seem to make a difference.

RemoteApp and focus on dialog boxes

We are publishing our applications to the user using RemoteApp.
It happens rather often that when you do something in an app that causes the app to display a dialogbox or maybe just another window
the new window will come up behind the app and impossible to get to. It seems it wont get focus properly and you cannot minimize the app in order to see the window that is requiring your action

I have found a couple of notes about it but nothing with any sugestion to a solution or so.

Anyone seen this before and knows anything more about it

"remote desktop connection has stopped working" When printing from remote desktop connection

I have been having a issue when using a windows 7 machine. I have Remote Desktop to a session on Windows2008 R2, I am using the local printer resources to redirect the printing. However everytime i try to print it crashes the remote desktop application. Gives me "remote desktop connection has stopped working." I have 4 other computers connected and printing with no issues what so ever. This only happens when i print. It does print by the way just the application crashes.

-I have also updated the printer drivers to newest possible thru the manufactorer website. The printer is a Brother MFC-8890DW. Windows 2008 R2 is up to date for the RDS server. 3 other machines are able to Remote in and print. The user is able to print using diffrent machines just not the Windows 7 machine.

Server 2012 RDS Built-in Overused CALs issue

Hi there

I have a pair of RDS servers running Windows Server 2012 Standard with RDS role installed, including licensing. They are standalone, but have an identical config, used a jump off servers.

RD licensing is activated, and 1 User CAL is installed (Volume license) on each server. My issue is that in licensing manager, CALs are being issued from a license: Windows Server 2012 - Installed RDS Per User CAL. License Program: Build-in Overused. This was present before I installed a real CAL. The issue is that users are continuing to be issue CALs from this, and the real CAL is never used. It is still in grace period, and the license mode is set to per user - I know that User CALs are not counted, but this still seems odd. I just want to make sure that this is not going to cause an issue. The servers are not complaining of any licensing issues. We will install some more when this is working, it is on an Enterprise agreement anyway so not a problem.

So why would it issue CALs from the built-in overused CALs and not use the real one?

Thanks

Hello
There is a problem with redirection printer per terminal session. On the server installed Windows Server 2008R2 Ent, installed AD RDS, installed EasyPrint.
Windows 7 clients have no problems - printer mapped and works.
Clients Windows XP printer is not mapped (RDP client settings all correctly, on server also allowed mapped printers per session)
On Windows XP clients the following software installed:

1). Net Framework 3.5 SP1
2) Mstsc version 6.1.7600.16722
3) Windows XP SP3

I reinstalled Framework, XPS EssentialPack and much more. But the problem was not solved.

RDP Connection Broker Issue

This seams like a bit of a strange one, because we do not have the Connection broker installed.

We have 2 offices, one which the users remote into the terminal server. All users are able to logon with no problems. We do get a connection broker failed to redirect, but this happens for every users as we removed this option.

The issues is that one of the workstations just wont connect anymore. Everything was working fine until yesterday. We haven't changed anything & all other workstations are fine. No updates have been recently installed & i am just about to do a windows update, but i am doubtful this will resolve my issue.

Event logs have the following for a successful connection to the TS

Information - Listener RDP-Tcp received a connection

information - Remote Desktop Services: User authentication succeeded

Verbose - Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client received request for redirection

Error - Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed while getting redirection packet from Connection Broker (Error: Remote Desktop Connection Broker is not ready for RPC communication)

Error - Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user

Information - Remote Desktop Services: Session re-connection succeeded

I only get the following when trying to connect from one of the Machines with an Issue

Information - Listener RDP-Tcp received a connection

Information - Remote Desktop Services: User authentication succeeded
