Hi everybody.

I have a little problem with my TS access from my rd web access.

I have a server 2008 R2 that runs a IIS and a RD gateway, and another server 2008 R2 that only runs as a terminal server.

But the thing is when I have logon to my rd web access and I click on the Remote desktop Icon and I have written my credentials to the domain it tries to login for about 10 sec and then i comes with a error that the server is not part of the network. bla bla. (see picture).

But if I click on the icon again it connects to my terminalserver :S.

Any ideas??

Regards

Martin

scaling remote desktop display to larger size ("pixel doubling") ?

I'm displaying the console of various remote hosts using Remote Desktop on my 2560x1600 display, and they come out very small. I would like to enlarge the RDP windows and have the remote displays' pixels increased in size accordingly. Is this possible?

I initially thought RDP smart sizing would take care of this but it seems this feature only supports making pixels smaller (scaling down, not up).

Note that I want any configuration changes to be done to my local machine only. Changing text size, DPI, or any other desktop related setting on remote hosts is undesired as they are correctly setup when used in other contexts.

Thanks
Mike

We have a mail client that we publish to users via the webfeed in RDS 2012. When users click on a mailto: link, we want it to open the publish app. How can i edit the regisrty to accomplish this?
This client also popsup a notification when a new message arrives. What registry entried would we have to do for this?

Disable Shutdown Button while using Terminal Services

When I remote desktop into the server remotely, the shutdown button shut's down the server.  Granted I have the reason for shutdown turned on, so some less skillful admin's have to fill in the reason and click okay before they really shutdown the server... but

Is it possible to replace the shutdown button with a Log Off button for remote sessions or disable it all together?

Seems like it could be a huge problem if I (or someone logged in as Admin) shutdown the server that's 4 hours away.

RDS Remote App - is it possible to invoke 'local application'

Hi,

Is it possible to 'call' a local application while working within Remote App session?

Scenario would be users working inside Remote App session & clicking a hyperlink. We would like to have the local client's iexplore.exe launch, not the RDS iexplore.exe. I believe this was possible with Citrix but not sure on native RDS 2012 R2.

Note sure if this is possible, wanted to check before standing up test environment.

Any help appreciated-

Remote Desktop Connection for Mac no longer supported?

I got a support call today asking if there was an alternative to Remote Desktop Connection for Mac as the download page discourages its use on Mac OS X 10.7 and later?  However Lion and soon Mountain Lion (Mac OS X 10.8) will be the preferred platform Apple pushes on the masses.  So will we see a RDC for Mac 2.2 or even a 3.0 soon? Or will Remote Desktop be a strictly a Microsoft platform technology?

Hi,

When i change the connection broker name using for example:

Set-RDClientAccessName -ConnectionBroker serverbrokerName.domain.com -ClientAccessName NewBrokerName.domain.com
no.manchete.pt

And setup a DNS pointing to NewBrokerName.domain.com

When someone tries to connect it gives him the following error:

"Your computer cannot connect to the remote computer because the Connection Broker couldn't validate the settings specified in your RDP file. Contact your network administrator for assistance".

What am i doing wrong?

Windows 2012 RDS - Session Host servers High Availability

Hello Windows/Terminal server Champs,

I am new middle of implementing RDS environment for one of my customer, Hope you could help me out.

My customer has asked for HA for RDS session host where applications are published, and i have prepared below plan for server point of view.

 2 Session Host server, 1 webaccess, 1 License/connection Broker & 1 Gateway (DMZ).

In first Phase, we are planning to target internal user who connect to Session host HA where these 2 servers will have application installed and internal user will use RDP to access these application.

In second Phase we will be dealing with external Party who connect from external network where we are planning to integrate with NetIQ => gateway => Webaccess/Session host

I have successfully installed and configured 2 Session Host, 1 license/Broker. 1 webAccess & 1 Gateway. But my main concern to have session Host High Available as it is hosting the application and most of the internal user going to use it. to configure it i am following http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753891.aspx

However most of the Architecture is change in RDS 2012. can you please help me out to setup the Session Host HA.

Note: we can have only 1 Connection broker /Licensing server , 1 webacess server & 1 Gateway server, we cannot increase more server due to cost factor.

 thanks in advance.

Win2008 R2 Remote Desktop server

Win2008 R2 Licensing server

The licensing server is active in the domain, and under RD Session Host Config on the RDS, it appears and I can choose it, but I get an error that it cannot be contacted.

If I choose it anyway and then run ‘Licensing Diagnosis’, I get all kinds of errors about how it cannot be contacted.

The RDS can ping the License server.  Both servers are in the same domain.

The scope of the License server is Forest and I have added the License server into the TSLS group in all domains.

I also delegated authority in each domain for the TSLS group to have read/write to the terminalserver attribute.

 What am I missing?

 Thanks

How to set default logon domain RD Gateway and/or RD Web

I'm using Win2k8 R2 servers with WinXP clients.  When I logon to the RD Web page, and again to RD Gateway, I -have- to enter domain\username to authenticate.  Anyone know how I can set the default logon domain?  My users don't even know how to spell their username most of the time, let alone what domain they're in, and I only have one domain.

Thanks
Mark

RDWeb, Server 2008 R2, Windows 8.1

I'm having a problem with running remote apps from a Windows 2008 R2 server, butONLY with Windows 8.1 clients.  I can connect successfully and run the remote apps from a Windows Vista or Windows 7 workstation.  However, when I connect from a Windows 8.1 workstation, I can log on to the website with no problem but when I try to run an app (Word, Excel, etc.), I get the following error message. I also get a similar error message trying to open a remote desktop session from the RDWeb site:

Remote App Disconnected

Remote Desktop can't conenct to the remote computer "[Gateway computer FQDN]" for one of these reasons.

The reasons include that the user account is not listed in the RD Gateway's permissions list, and that the remote computer name is specified incorrectly (i.e., NetBIOS name instead of FQDN or IP address).  Although all of the settings are exactly the same as those that I use for Windows Vista/7, I tried several things:

  1. On the Windows 8.1 computer, I tested the user credentials by logging on to a remote desktop session from the remote desktop connection client (instead of the rdweb site) using the same credentials. This worked with no problem.
  2. I tested the computer name by changing it from a NetBIOS name (which works with Windows Vista/7) to the FQDN. I got the same error message as with the NetBIOS name.

The IIS logs don't show any error messages.  The only error message I can find which might be related is in the Security log of the server:

This logon failure occurred immediately after events 6272 and 6278 which indicate that the Network Policy Server granted access to the user.

I've done a lot of research over the past couple of days and can't find anything related to these errors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RD Gateway FQDN Certificate Confusion

$

Hi all

I want to establish if I am on the right lines and close to success or not:

I have 4 servers:

Server1 Roles/Info

RD Web role

Connection Broker role

Server2 Roles/Info

Session Host role

Member of RDS Farm

Server3 Roles/Info

Session Host role

Member of RDS Farm

Server4 Roles/Info

Gateway

I have RemoteApps working internally and load balancing so that seems to be working fine. My confusion arises with regards the external access:

Situation: My internal domain name is example.co.uk. My company also use the same domain for external websites eg support.example.co.uk, website.example.co.uk etc. So I decided to use the domain for DNS for external access. I used “rds.example.co.uk” and pointed this to one our public IP’s. I then setup on the firewall NAT and firewall rules from external to internal RDWebServer. I purchased a cert off GoDaddy which is also “rds.example.co.uk”.

Possible problem 1: Is me using the same internal and external domain an issue?

Possible problem 2: Is using a single SSL Cert a problem?

Possible problem 3: To gain access to the RDWebsite externally, where should my NAT rule point the traffic to? The Gateway server or the RDWeb server? Currently I have the NAT rule pointing to the RDWeb server and I am currently getting 404 HTTP webpage cannot be found errors.

Possible problem 4: Should my Gateway server have the same FQDN as the cert? At the moment it has a generic server name like rds04.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

File/Folder sharing over RD Gateway?

$

I have read in the RD Gateway description that it "enables file/folder access" outside the company's intranet.

My understanding of this would be "bypassing the full desktop environment", but HOW?

Suppose, I only want my BYO users (no Group Policy) to be able to click on an .RDP file I prepared for them, and "magically" a folder would open from the intranet-hosted DFS. This is to avoid having them to VPN in.

I have RDGW deployed and available to Internet. While outside coprnet, I am able to use RDS on a group of pre-defined servers inside.

The SSL cert is publicly trusted and matches external URL.

How can I map a folder via RDGW, bypassing the full dekstop experience???

Remote Desktop Connection Manager can only open 6 sessions at a time on Server 2012

I am only able to open, and view thumbnails, for a maximum of 6 RDP sessions on my Server 2012 box at a time in Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCM). If I add more sessions I just get a variety of connection errors for the additional sessions. If I activate a 7th session one of the existing 6 sessions goes off-line with a connection error message. Sometimes the error says 3334, sometimes the error says 0x8345000E, and sometimes it just says there is a connection error.

I have checked Group Policy on the server to ensure I don't have any settings restricting the number of RDP sessions.

In fact, I will often have 30 or 40 RDP simultaneous sessions opened, I am just not able to view them all in RDCM. I have seen reviews of RDCM with screenshots showing dozens of thumbnails so it seems to be something that's possible to do.

Are there any settings I should make on the server to allow RDCM to connect to more than 6 simultaneous RDP sessions?

Just to be clear, all these RDP sessions are running on the same server. Also, I am just using the trial license for Server 2012 and Remote Desktop Services right now. I don't think that should have an impact, but I wanted to be thorough.

Problem with RDP clients not reconnecting to same session

We have a Windows 2008 R2 server configured as a session host. We have anywhere up to 40 remote users that might connect concurrently. A few times during the day, we'll get calls from users that had a connection drop abruptly, but when they reconnect, they don't get their previous session back. They end up with two sessions on the server, but they cannot start up the main application because there can only be one instance, and it's running in the previous RDP session. We have to manually kill the old session, and then they are able to start the application up. Does anyone have an idea as to what I might try? Thanks

Changing password at first login problem from W7 x64 client to W2012 terminal server

When logging in with RDP for the first time to our W2012 Terminalserver from any x86 workstation you get the screen to change your password and everything works fine. When doing this from a W7 x64 workstation we get an error-screen  "Remote desktop Connection - You must change your password before logging on the first time. Please update your password or contact your system administrator or technical support."

are there any idees or hot fixes to solve this problem?

Creating Virtual Desktop Collections - VM Template not getting listed

Hi All,

We are evaluating VDI solution and I have done the initial setup.

Server VDI01 Configured as RD Virtualization Host. This machine is a physical machine (DL580).

Server VDICB1 Configured as connection broker. This machine is a VM running on Windows 2012 HyperV3 cluster.

Server VDIWA1 configured as RD Webaccess server. This machine is also a VM running on Windows 2012 Hyperv3 cluster.

I was referring the blog http://blog.itvce.com/?p=1569 and was successful till the template creation.

While I am trying to create a Virtual desktop collection, On Specify Virtual Desktop Template, I couldn't get the template listed out.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks for the help.

How to license remote desktop services in 2012 without a deployment?!?!

$

Am I crazy or is there no way to license a 2012 RDS server? I don't want to deploy a gateway or a connection broker. My servers are on a domain and I just want to point it to a license server for the CALs (per user).

Why can't I seem to do this and 2012 REQUIRES the use of some scaled out deployment?

what am I missing?
