Connection Broker always redirects to same(initial) session host

$

I have setup a load-balanced RD server farm by following the steps outline at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753891.aspx

The purpose is that the session host farm members provide some RemoteApps for access via RDP files.

I've read that RemoteApp sessions (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2007/09/28/terminal-services-remoteapp-session-termination-logic.aspx) tend to be in "disconnected" state indefinitely by default. This means that a connection broker will redirect a user to this session.

The strange behavior for me, is that a user is always redirected to the same session host it initially connected with by the round-robin DNS mechanism. This occurs even when i manually ended his (RDP)session (either by using Task Manager on the session host or by using the RD services Manager on the connection broker) . It seems like the connection broker database just doesn't get updated and therefore a user is always redirect to the session host it initially connected with.

Anybody a clue of what I might be missing?

RDS on Hyper-V Server 2012

Hi - I have one Windows Server 2012 Standard and also Remote Desktop Services USER CAL's x4

What we want is for these 4x users to RDP into the Server and use applications like Office (plus a few inhouse apps)

What services and roles need installing? as i'm really struggling now and i'm getting rather stressed boo hoo

Currently i have a standalone Windows Server 2012 Standard, i have installed Hyper-V and created two VM's (Windows Server 2012 Standard)

Both have been added to the excising Windows 2003 SBS Domain

I have promoted one to a DC (SERVER-AD) the second i have have added

¦ Role-based or feature-based installation ¦ Select a Server ¦ Remote Desktop Services ¦ Remote Desktop -Gateway -Licensing - Web Access (as per a forum walk through)

I've configured the RD-Gateway with policies and licensing as per http://www.wackytechtips.com/installing-and-configuring-remote-desktop-services-rds-on-windows-server-2012/ as referenced above

But no matter what i have done hasn't worked! - i'm wondering if this post above is incomplete and there's more to this?

I have looked at adding ¦ Remote Desktop Services Installation ¦ Quick Start ¦ Session Based desktop deployment - think that is the bit i'm missing, i have years and years of server experience but this i have no experience of so i could be going completely wrong!

Anyhow on do the other i end up getting 'Online- Cannot get role and feature data'

Help - i seriously need some guidance on this

Thanks to anyone and everyone in advance :)

Environment -VMware vSphere 5.5 running Windows Server 2012 R2 Session hosted Desktops. Clients are a mixture of Windows XP and 7, and 8 along with some IGEL Linux based Thin Terminals.

How can I maximise the performance when it comes to graphics and audio bearing in mind I don't have the advantage of RemoteFX as my VMs are not sitting on Hyper-V?

For example I am not sure if I can utilise media or flash redirection like Citrix and if so where do I make those changes?

Any advice would be helpful.

Set a machine to ignore Remote Desktop Services Profile

I have set up Remote Desktop Services Profiles for my users, but there are a few machines on which I do not want these profiles to apply.  That is, if I RDP into SERVER1, I do not want it to copy down the Remote Desktop Services Profile nor to copy my profile on SERVER1 back up to the central location for my Remote Desktop Services Profile.  Is there any sort of setting I can make on SERVER1 to accomplish that?

Thank you very much.

Deleted Collection Showing Up In RD Web Access (Session Host/Remote Desktop Configuration)

Recently I implemented a 2012 RDS Standard Deployment.  Below is my current configuration:

REMOTE02 and REMOTE03  - Hyper-V servers hosting all of our Session Host VMs.

RDS01v  -  Web Access Server

RDSAPP01v - RDSAPP06v -  Session Hosts   Session Hosts for 1st Collection needed for a legacy app that must use a desktop.

RDSCB01v  - RDS Connection Broker

LICENSE01v - Licensing Server

RDSOTHERAPP01v - 06v    Session Hosts for a 2nd Collection needed for a legacy app that must use a desktop.

----------------------------------

During the configuration of the 2nd Collection, and preparing for the pilot for our end users (switching from Citrix to MS RDS), the vendor of the legacy app gave us another solution that would be easier for our end users.  Therefore, we no longer needed (Collection #2) and the VMs.  Rather than delete the VMs, I shut them down on the Hyper-V hosts for the time being, however, I did delete the collection.  Now for some reason, when I log into RD Web Access, the 2nd Collection, and the Remote Desktop connection to that Collection via the Connection Broker still exists.  I see Collection 1, and all works well, but the 2nd Collection still shows up.  I've rebooted my Connection Broker, Web Server, shut down the Session Hosts I no longer need, but it still shows up.  I deleted the AD Group associated with that specific collection.  Can anyone help me here?  Or has anyone run into anything similar?

Thanks! Nate

Local client drives visible but not accessible

Hi there!

I have a problem with mapping of local client drives when accessing a Windows Server 2012 machine via Remote Desktop.

A user that is not a member of Administrators, can see the local client drives ("C on [client name]" etc. in Windows Explorer, but when he tries to view/expand the drive, nothing happens.

When he types "\\tsclient\c" in the adress field, the client's C-drived is displayed correctly however.

For a user that is member of Administrator, everything works fine.

When connecting, I have selected to include local drives and the drives are, as mentioned, indeed listed in Explorer.

The behavior is the same when launching a server application via an rdp-file and opening an "open file" dialog in that application. In the rdp file, I have set:

drivestoredirect:s:*
redirectdrives:i:1

But then again, I don't think that's the problem.

Any advice on how to solve this is very appreciated!

Regards,

Magnus

Please help! How to increase font size in RemoteApp?

I have weak-sighted user.
There is some RemoteApp running on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standatd x64.
I need to increase scale of fonts to 125% and use 120 dpi fonts for this user.
But  increasing scale of fonts disabled on RDP Session.
Option to use 120 dpi font doesn't exist.

On Windows Server 2003 I can locally increase scale and dpi and this apply for RDP sessions of all users.
If I locally increase font scale on Windows 2008 R2 this doesn't apply on RDP Session.

I tried to use desktop customisation to increase fonts of Windows Title, Menu and etc for this user. But I can't increase system fonts on dialogs.

Please help me to increase font size for my RemoteApp.

[2012R2] RDS Session Host Configuration

Hello,

I am currently configuring an infrastructure for RDS Session Based. All my servers are Windows Server 2012 R2.

I have deployed a RD Licensing Server and 2 RD Connection Broker in HA. I have 2 servers for the RD Session Host. I have created a collection with my 2 session hosts. I have configured the timeout for the idle session in example.

Now, do I need to create a GPO with the timeout session idle, or the configuration of the collection will be used ?

I have configured by GPO the 2 settings for my session host server :

Configure RD Connection Broker server name : RD Connection Broker Round Robin Name
Configure RD Connection Broker farm name: FARM01

Is this correct ? Or this settings will be automatically configured because the two server are on the same collection ?

Do I need to make an NLB Cluster with my session host ?

Is that correct, for my end user when they went to use rdp, the use the name of my session host and then session host will contact the broker ?

I can't find any god articles on technet that explain all of this in 2012 R2.

Thanks

Certificates for RemoteApp farm

Hi,

I'm having difficulties getting certificates for my Remoteappfarm working.
All clients are Win7 SP1.

I have a connection broker and a webaccess on the same server (Server1) and a Remoteapp farm (farm.company.net) with two servers included (Server2, Server3).
I also have a standalone Remoteapp connected to the webaccess (Server4)
All is set up and working in the sense that I can connect to the webaccess and start applications, but I recieved lots of warnings when starting applications due to the lack of certificates.. so..

I requested/imported an SSL cert for the webaccess with the fqdn of the webaccess adress, which enabled a smooth login to the webaccess. Works fine.

I added the policy setting to enable SSO on the clients.

I requested/imported an SSL cert for the standalone server (Server4) and also distributed the Server4 certs SHA1 via GPO as a trusted publisher as described in the documentation:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee216791.aspx
I added the cert in the remoteapp section in server manager as the cert to sign with.
Works fine, no popups regarding certs, server identities when starting the apps, SSO works fine. Perfect!

I requested/imported an SSL cert for the farm (farm.company.net) as described in the thread below:
 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverTS/thread/0158e68d-fe06-4261-88e3-4b6f205911da/
To get it right I imported the cert on the server I requested it from (Server2) and then exported it to get the private key included. This was then imported on server3.
I distributed the farm certs SHA1 as well via GPO as a trusted publisher.
I added the cert in the remoteapp section in server manager on both Server2 and Server3 as the cert to sign with.
This does however not work. When starting an application in webaccess that points to the farm I get an error message that states:

"Your credentials did not work" "Your system administrator does not allow the use of default credentials to log on the remote computer Company Remote Access because its identity is not fully verified. Please enter new credentials"
This has fields to enter my account and password. My account is already filled in and when i enter my password and hit ok I get the following prompt:

"The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway? The Remote computer could not be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate. It may be unsafe to proceed. Name in the certificate from the remote computer: SERVER2.company.com. Certificate errors: The certificate is not from a trusted certifying authority.."
If I click Yes to proceed the app launches fine, but I must get rid of the message and doesn't know where to start..

Please help!

RDS Certificate Requirements

$

Hello, I have implemented the following RDS configuration however I am having some trouble in locating the exact SSL certificate requirements that are needed for this setup. Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Environment:

Internal Domain Name: contoso.com

External Domain Name. contoso.com

1 x server with RDS Gateway installed

1 x server with RDS Web Access installed

1 x Session Broker

2 x Session Hosts, configured in a farm with the name farm.contoso.com

Please note that the Gateway and Web Access roles are installed on seperate servers. There is no ISA/TMG server in this implementation.

I believe I require the following certifcates:

RD Gateway - Public CA Single Name certificate containing the publically resolvable name of gateway.contoso.com

Web Access - Public CA Single Name certificate containing the publically resolvable name of webaccess.contoso.com

Session Hosts - Public CA SAN certificate containg the publically resolvable name of farm.contoso.com and the servers internal FQDN of host1.contoso.com and host2.contoso.com

If possible could someone please confirm if this is correct, it would be very much appreciated.

Kind Regards.

Time Zone Redirect Doesn't work on Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server

Hello All,

A client has two Windows 2003 and two Win 2008 R2 Terminal servers.

When users from a different time zone login to the Win 2003 server, the time zone of the server changes to reflect their own time zone. However when they login to the Win 2008 R2 servers, the time zone on the server doesn’t change.

I already enabled the "Allow time zone redirection" on both Win 2008 R2 Terminal Servers in :

Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Device and Resource RedirectionYet when the clients login to the 2008 server and checks the time on the server, it still shows local/server time and not their own time zone.

Any input will be appreciated.

RDWEB IE11 Browser not supported

I have 2008R2 with RDS. I have a couple Apps on it, and almost everything is fine, except that IE11 users are getting this error:

Browser Not Supported

This Web browser is not supported by RD Web Access. RD Web Access requires Internet "Explorer 6.0 or later.

You can download the latest version of Internet Explorer from theWindows Update Web site. "

IE 11 is certainly later than 6.0.

I am not seeing anything in the forums, is there a work-around on either the server or client side?

Thx!

RDS SSL Certificate Problem

Hi

We've bought an SSL certificate for use on our RDS Session Host connector. We've imported it but when we try to select it in RDS settings we get a message saying 'There are no certificates installed on this Remote Desktop Session Host server'. If I try to use it in RemoteApp Manager under Digital Signature Settings I can select it without issue. We don't have Gateway installed and ideally don't want to, we just want to put a certificate on the connector.

Is there any advice anyone can give me to get this working?

Many thanks

Default Users Profile Corrupt, Event ID 1515

$

We have a 2008 Terminal Server that is getting event ID 1515.

Details
Product: Windows Operating System
Event ID:1515
Source: Userenv
Version:5.2
Symbolic Name: EVENT_PROFILE_DIR_BACKEDUP
Message:Windows has backed up this user's profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backed up profile the next time this user logs on.

Explanation

A temporary user profile is loaded because Windows was unable to log you on with your local profile.

A possible cause for this is if your local profile has been corrupted or you no longer have adequate privileges to the profile folders.

Note: All changes made to the temporary profile are lost after you log off.

User Action

Look for additional profile events in the Event log to obtain more information about why this occurred or contact the system administrator for additional help.

Is there anyway that I can recover or repair the default users profile?

SSL for Remote Desktop Service

Hello,

I have Windows 2012 server with Remote Desktop Services installed. I have configured a local domain ttt.domain.local and i have pointed an external domain ttt.domain.com to the server (ttt.domain.com resolves to the server IP). Im planing to use ttt.domain.com for remote desktop connections. Im getting "The certificate is not trusted" errors while trying to connect to the server, it seems to be caused by the difference between the internal and the external FQDN - .local and .com. I would like to change the self-signed certificate , but im not sure for which domain name i need to issue it - .local or .com?

Thanks!

Deploying Managed Pool Breaks Adobe Reader 11

$

I am trying to set up managed pools for VDI in RDS.  I have RDS installed and functional on a Windows Server 2012 Datacenter machine, and I have successfully created Windows 7 template machines and deployed pools from them.  I have even managed to make changes to the pools with the recreate functions.  I have done most of this without finding great documentation.  That having been said, I am having an issue that I'm not sure how to deal with thatadequate documentation probably wouldn't help with.  I have installed Adobe Reader 11 on a virtual desktop template and created a pool from it.  When I connect to that pool and try to launch Adobe Reader, I get an error that says only: "An internal error occurred."  Adobe Reader does not launch.  I assumed this was a problem with the installation or something sysprep did, so I booted up the template and went through the OOBE.  Once booted, I could launch Adobe Reader with no problem.  IOW, this issue only exists when I deploy a managed pool, but not on the base image the managed pool was deployed from.  Note that I would prefer to keep everything on the VDI image and not mess with RDSH or App-V.  Does anyone have any suggestion on how to deal with this?

"Because of an error in data encryption, this session will end"

All of a sudden my Windows 7 x64 computer is unable to connect to random Windows 2008 R2 servers via Remote Desktop.

I can connect to the same servers from other Windows 7 machines.

The only fix I've come across so far is this, except that key doesn't exist on either my machine or on the server(s):

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Start Registry Editor.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermService\Parameters
  3. Under this registry subkey, delete the following values:
    • Certificate
    • X509 Certificate
    • X509 Certificate ID
  4. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the server.

Does anyone have any suggestions please as I'm at a total loss what is happening here.

Thanks.
