I have one user who continues to receive this error every time he try's to RDP to this server Windows Server (2008) Enterprise SP2. No other users receive this error when they RDP to the server.

I used this workaround...

Windows Server 2008 (SP1 or SP2)

1. Logon to the Terminal Services computer as an administrator
2. Start--Run gpedit.msc, click Continue if prompted by UAC
3. In the left pane, under Computer Configuration, navigate to following:

Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Remote Session Environment

4. In the right pane, double-click on Set compression algorithm for RDP data
5. Select Enabled, and choose Balances memory and network bandwidth
6. Click OK to save the change

This did not resolve my issue.

RDC printing not working

I'm connecting to a Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit TS remote desktop over the Internet using RDC on Windows 7 64bit. I can see all my redirected printers (e.g. "Canon LBP3010/LBP3018/LBP3050 (redirected 2)" and "Microsoft XPS Document Writer (redirected 2)") and print to them, without error (can't see anything in the error logs on client or server), however nothing prints.

Any ideas how I can troubleshoot or fix this?

PS: Redirected printing is working with Logmein (connected to a different machine) so there doesn't appear to be anything wrong client side.

Thanks, Simon

I have configured a dedicated server 2012 R2 box to be the RDS licence server for the Domain.

When I use the Review configuration option, I get 2 green tick circles which indicate to me that all is well. However, when I built a separate RDS Server 2012 R2 box, this server does not seem to be picking up a licence.

Can anyone help?

RDS 2012 R2 RemoteApp Server Name Mismatch

Hi All,

I wonder if someone can scratch my head on this.

Brand new RDS 2012 R2 deployment.

  • RDS01 with Connection Broker and Session Host Roles installed
  • RDS02 with Web Access and Gateway roles installed
  • one ssl certificate with one domain remote.mycompany.com
  • the certificate have been imported to all the servers via the Edit Deployment
  • the local domain is mycompany.local

the problem that i am having is that when i launch RemoteApp after login in the remote.mycompany.com externally, i get Certificate mismatch, because it is contact the local name of the Session host server RDS01.

What i tried so far.

  1. Used the Set-PublishName (http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Change-published-FQDN-for-2a029b80) without success
  2. Try to configure RDS01 certificate via (http://ryanmangansitblog.wordpress.com/2013/03/10/configuring-rds-2012-certificates-and-sso/)
  3. Check Any resources ( http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d1b0ebe4-9e53-47ff-8c75-43fd91ff538a/windows-2012-rds-certificate-mismatch?forum=winserverTS)

Has anybody out there could shade me some knowledge in how to rectify the mismatch name warning.

Thanks

Elton

We have RDS installed in Windows 2008 R2 Standard edition and configured RDS Web, RDS Gateway, RemoteAPP, ADS, DNS in the same server which is in DMZ and we have opened the port 443 only for the clients and enabled the self signed certificate.   We have tested this setup with various windows 7 ( 32/64 bits and IE9/IE10) machines, everything works fine.  But few clients are getting the below error.

RemoteApp Disconnected

This computer can't connect to the remote computer.
The two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted.  Try connecting again.  If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support.

Please suggest a way forward.  3 users are able to connect from windows 7 (IE10) PC, but 3 users are getting the above error they are also having windows 7 (IE10) PC.

All of a sudden my Windows 7 x64 computer is unable to connect to random Windows 2008 R2 servers via Remote Desktop.

I can connect to the same servers from other Windows 7 machines.

The only fix I've come across so far is this, except that key doesn't exist on either my machine or on the server(s):

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Start Registry Editor.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermService\Parameters
  3. Under this registry subkey, delete the following values:
    • Certificate
    • X509 Certificate
    • X509 Certificate ID
  4. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the server.

Does anyone have any suggestions please as I'm at a total loss what is happening here.

Thanks.

Terminal farm and RemoteApp

Hi.

If I will deploy the same application at two different RDSH servers, and publish it as RemoteApp in each server. Assuming that - can I connect to that application with one *.rdp file and further be balanced with RD connection broker?

May RD broker balance RemoteApp requests for the same application on different servers anyhow?

When making theFIRST Remote Desktop Connection between any of the following:

Local Computer                Remote Computer

Windows 7                          Windows 7

Windows 7                          Windows Server 2008

Windows Server 2008    Windows 7

Windows Server 2008    Windows Server 2008

there is a 20-30 second delay before the connection is established.  On some versions of Remote Desktop client you will see the message “Securing Remote Connection” during the delay.   Once the first connection has been established the delay disappears for any new connections which occur within the next 3-5 minutes.  After 3-5 minutes the delay reoccurs.

The delay does NOT occur for the following connections:

Local Computer                Remote Computer

Windows 7                          Windows XP

Windows 7                          Windows Server 2003

Windows Server 2003    Windows 7

Windows Server 2003    Windows Server 2008

There are no certificates nor terminal services gateways involved.  This is on a LAN connection.

Server 2012 Remote Desktop "Admin Mode" missing Host Configuration

$

Hi,

I've searched the forums, the TechNet library, google, bing, without success. Please can someone clarify the following for me:

I'm looking for a way to configure the RDP session host settings (redirection restrictions, limit color depth, etc.) for a stand-alone (non-domain-member/workgroup machine) server 2012 in "Admin Mode". Pretty much the same you could do in Windows 2008 (R2) using the Host Configuration snap-in.

I understand the host configuration snap-in is gone in 2012 (for whatever reason?!) and installing the RDS Session Host role requires me to make the machine member of a domain to configure its settings using the server manager (for whatever reason?!). I'm also not entirely sure if I need a CAL to run an RDS Session Host on a windows server but at least it seems to change some settings using gpedit.msc in Computer\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\... (strangely not all settings seem to work).

The ultimate question: is there a way to tweak those things on a stand-alone server 2012 running admin mode only? If so, how?

Thanks,
Stefan

How to set up remote desktop licensing mode in windows server 2012

$

Hi,

I've deployed yesterday a windows 2012 server (RTM) and set up the license server for my 10-CAL licenses. That's ok.

But I can not see a way to point my server to see the license server. Every time I log in, I receive a message that the RD services will expire in 119 days.

Using the diagnosis tool it says that licensing mode isn't set up.

Where I can find the tool to set up this licensing mode? In windows server 2008 this question was asked in the setup wizadr.

Thanks a lot!

Remote desktop servers 2012 R2 web access

Hi,

I have a remote desktop farm which consists of 3 2012 R2 servers

Server 1 is gateway / web access / session broker / TS licensing

Server 2 RDSH

Server 3 RDSH

Currently when i login from external using web access it takes a long time for the authentication / authorization phase to complete. If i drill down into the RDP file on the local machine after downloading using the web feed URL i can untick the bypass RD gateway for local addresses and this speeds up the login process quickly. Where can i find the source of the app on the web access server so that i can edit the .rdp so that when users login to the web interface the app presented will not have this setting configured?

Time zones on Win2012R2 server

$

A couple users on the Windows 2012 R2 Terminal Server are in a different time zone than the majority of users or the server itself.  This affects the time when using Outlook 2010 on the Terminal Server.

How do I enable the user to get the time zone that reflects their location ?

In the default Domain Policy, I have tried enabling the ALLOW TIME ZONE REDIRECTION policy in:

COMPUTER CONFIGURATION/POLICIES/ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES/WINDOWS COMPONENTS/REMOTE DESKTOP SERVICES/REMOTE DESKTOP SESSION HOST/DEVICE AND RESOURCE REDIRECTION

Need to be clear about something.  This is a 2003 FOREST.  There are no 2008 AD servers.

I see (and have edited) that specific policy above when I am editing the policy from a Windows 7 PRO PC. When I look at that policy from the Windows Server 2003  Domain Controller, I do not see that policy or even the REMOTE DESKTOP SERVICES group.  I only see TERMINAL SERVICES from the 2003 server.

Is the policy I am editing (from my Win 7 PC)  being applied to my Windows 2012 RDS users session ?  Have I applied it in the correct location ?

Remote Desktop Gateway 2008 R2 - logon attempt failed

I've already read through a lot of threads regarding this. Our RDGW has been working for approx 2 years. Suddenly now, some clients start to get the "logon attempt failed" when they are using rdgw. It does seems to be an increasing problem..

- Redirection in IIS is OK, checked out!
- Blank page appears when i try to logon to http://rdgw.server.com/rpc - This is OK.

I see NO non-normal entries at all in event viewer on the gateway server.

The only thing I get in event viewer on the client is:

TerminalServices-ClientActiveXCore/Microsoft Windows-TerminalServices-RDPClient/Operational:

EventID: 1026 - RDP CLientActiveX is disconnected (reason= 50331649)

EventID: 1025 - Connection with multiple transport is disconnected(not correct - google translate from locale)

This is the only thing I can see in the logs, it pops right after I get the: "The logon attempt failed"

I think a certificate issue is excluded since most of my clients can connect - all certs er valid.

We got people externally and locally that are experiencing this issue (I've forced rdgw to be sure on the local clients) So most likely this problem has nothing to do with external/internal.

On those computers who are unable to logon using rdgw, none accounts works(i've even tried domain admin). So the problem is not user-based either.

Since the "the logon attempt failed" pops within a second I was'nt sure if the traffic even got to our RDGW, so I checked with wireshark, and I can see that the gw is responding in ssl back to the client. Still there is no entries in the log on the rdgw server..

Any suggestions?

thanks

Hello everyone,

I'm evaluating Windows Server 2012 as a RDS-server. Now I was trying to install a evaluation copy of Office 2013 Professional Plus. As many of you already know it's not possible. :) How do I know if it performs well in RDS? Is there a way to test Office 2013 on RDS? Didn't find any information related to this topic...

Thanks in advance

Certificate Mismatch RDS Session Host

$

I've been banging my head against this for the last few days. I have a server 2012 remote desktop setup as follows:

  • 1 Gateway Server
  • 1 RD Web Access Serve
  • 1 Session Broker, which is also a session host
  • 1 Additional Session host

I'm using remote app to publish applications rather than desktops. I've got a wildcard certificate for the external domain, which works fine for the gateway and web access server, the problem comes with the session hosts, which are giving me a certificate mismatch error because connections are made to the internal name (which is a .local address) which obviously does not match the external certificate.

I have a DNS zone for the external name setup on this domain, so that machines can be resolved by internal or external names.

I've made some progress by following the steps here - http://serverfault.com/questions/524092/rds-rdweb-and-remoteapp-how-to-use-public-certificate-for-launching-apps-on-s, and things now work fine if I only have the session host that is also the broker enabled. Once I add the second session host, any requests that go to that get the certificate error. Connections to the first session host still work fine.

Does anyone know a way to have requests be made to the external name of the session host?

RDS is not connecting since Windows 8.1 (Internet Explorer 11)

We are using Server 2012 R2 for RDS and we are having problems with the clients that got upgraded to Windows 8.1 (IE), RDS stopped connecting to the Remote Applications.  Based on solutions that we have found online, we have used the compatibility mode and the Development emulation for IE9 or IE10.

The links that we have found related to this issue are:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/c0007fa2-dbe1-4e46-a46d-ebee3a08c584/bug-with-remote-desktop-services-and-internet-explorer-10?forum=winserverTS

http://www.blackforce.co.uk/2013/10/24/rds-2008-browser-not-supported-ie10-ie11

We are looking for a solution that will allow us to use RDS with Windows 8.1, any help would be appreciated

Does client drive redirection support WebDAV folder?

Our environment is Windows 2008 R2 acting as Remote Desktop Session server and it is hosting few RemoteApp. Excel is one of them. When users (Windows 7 client) launched Excel RemoteApp, they select "File"->"Open", they can see all of their local computer drive and also the mapped network drive. However some users have a WebDAV drive configured to connect with our Sharepoint server. Those WebDAV folder doesn't show in the open dialog. I searched on the Internet but find nothing. So is it supported by Microsoft?
